Saturday 15th Feb. Dances of the World with live Music from Tessara
10.30-4.30 Woolavington Village Hall( near the A39 Glastonbury ,Bridgewater Rd.)
Dance all day to this fabulous band then enjoy a sumptuous supper cooked by Francis Fawkes. Only £21 inc.
The four members of Tessera are enthusiastic about bringing live music to Balkan, International Folk and Circle Dance events. They enjoy supporting dance teachers in workshops as well as playing for social dancing.
Maya Buckley (clarinet, kaval, whistle) has been involved in various music-making groups specialising in Balkan folk dance music in the South West of England for many years. She also has many years of experience teaching the clarinet and playing for dance.
Marion Nieuwenhuizen (percussion, guitar, voice) has been teaching international folk dance since 1988 when she qualified as a folk dance teacher in the Netherlands.
She runs the company FabDrumming and has a broad experience in facilitating team building sessions, organizing events and performing. Marion studied dance and music in The Netherlands, UK, Ireland, Mali, Ghana, Senegal and South Africa.
Mike Machin (violin, kemence, voice) and Clyde Olliver (accordion) have been playing International Folk Music as a duo for over fifteen years. They have given informal music making sessions for instrumentalists and singing workshops at several residential weekends as well as playing music for evening social dances.
