The thing about traffic problems is that you wait ages for one to come along and then loads turn up at once. The M4 last Friday was beset with multiple hold-ups. Rory couldn’t get to Sammi, Sammi couldn’t get to Rory, Roy & Sammi couldn’t get…well, anywhere. Our van was set to avoid all this by heading up the A465 but, as it turns out, so was everybody that was trying to avoid the M4. Our satnav’s arrival time went up and down like a hurdler’s kneecap and we saw a lorry pull over and hit a car. Of us all, Andy - flying in from the states - had the most straightforward journey. We were 30 minutes late at the venue…which we took as a win.

When we arrived at The Halls in Wolverhampton there was security everywhere, big trucks parked outside, and several tour busses. Alas these were not for us: apparently James Morrison was playing in the bigger of the two halls. It was our first time at this venue and the staff & crew were fantastic. After sound check we of the lighting & sound crew found the Lupo Lounge nearby - Lounges are a great chain to look up where ever you are in the UK. The show was only about 60% full but I guess loads of people had gone to see Jim next door. Nevertheless the gig was great. Notably, in an intentionally cryptic TUCRS first, we had one audience member in who was - erm, posthumous. We headed to our hotel after the gig to find that the bar was still open - back of the net!

We headed for Exmouth on Saturday: a couple hours drive away. The Pavilion is right on the sea front, the sun was shining and it was a gloriously warm day. Perfect weather for shoving a couple of metric tonnes of gear up the ramp and onto the stage. The guys there are great and Alun’s from Wales so for once we didn’t have to slow our speech down to be understood. We had Gavin on lights, since Llwyd’s gone on a holiday: he did a sterling job. We had fish & chips from Harbour View on the sea front and then a great gig with a lively bunch of people.

Oh, and good luck to our dear friend and colleague Dan Saunders in his new role!

Ade's Monday musings...

Hello again! 👋🏼

Tony & I headed north east the day before our show at York Barbican. We stayed at the Travelodge in South Cave near Hull. As usual we checked in and set about looking for a good local food pub. We found a great pub called White Hart in Brough, but when we got there it turned out they no longer served food. Over a pint, we researched the nearest pub that did serve food, and got chatting to a lovely couple: Gary and Carol. So lovely they were in fact that, once they’d collected their fish & chip from round the corner they invited on giving us a lift to the food pub…lovely, lovely people. We arrived at the Fox & Covey in South Cave: what an exceptional food pub! Fantastic service & staff, and the food was absolutely superb.

York Barbican …we’ve never played there before and it was a joy to do. It’s a luxurious load-in - because it’s indoors! We had some tweaks & checks to do since we’ve been off for a while and there’ve been some repairs going on. The children of Stage Coach York were just brilliant and we all loved the show….the people of York were lovely.

We had a day off on Saturday so in true rock n roll style we hit the local Miller & Carter (Garforth). It was fab as is usual with M&K, and the staff were brilliant at dealing with the controlled chaos that we bring along. We’ve taken to staying at IHG hotels now - Premier Inn was getting to be really hard work for checking in a large party: we’re all loving the change so far.

We headed off to the wonderful Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on Sunday: it’s a fantastic venue with a great crew and a nice easy load-in. There’s a little Turkish restaurant just around the corner called Te Mola and we always head there after sound check. Stunning food, and the waiting staff are really friendly - and funny! The show - to over 800 people, was fantastic. We were joined by another fantastic Stagecoach group and the crowd were right up for it.

Venue tip, drop a pin on the actual loading bay for directions as the city centre can be a pain to navigate. Or - head for Rock City and turn right at the bottom of the hill.

🤘Alright you legends,
We just want to take a minute under the spotlight to thank every single one of you. Whether you’ve been snapping up tickets, blasting our videos, sharing the noise, or riding shotgun on this classic rock circus with us — you’re the reason we get to turn the amps up in the first place.
And we never take that for granted.
Now… we’ve got some big news.
We’ve joined Bandsintown🤜 https://bnds.us/gu8c94
— a mighty fine place where you can follow your favourite bands and get the word the second they’re rolling into your city. Think of it as your backstage pass to knowing when the lights are going down and the speakers are about to roar.
So if you want to know where we’ll be next — what stage, what city, what night the roof might come off — head over and give us a follow.
Because when we hit your town, we’re not coming quietly.
Turn it up.Raise your hands. We’ll see you in auditoriums. 🔥🎤🎸
