The pretty side of business doesn’t always show the paddle beneath the surface…
Being a parent whilst running your own business is a different kind of hard.
I get to create beautiful displays for your most special celebrations, bringing your visions to life and helping you make memories. But what you don’t always see is the frantic paddle happening behind the scenes.
And this weekend has been exactly that. 🫠
A fully booked Saturday, multiple collections, a 6am start… and then, completely unexpectedly, I needed to collect one of my little ones from their residential trip after they became poorly, followed by an unscheduled trip to the doctors.
Now, to some, that might not sound like the end of the world. But when every booking is carefully scheduled, you work alone, and there genuinely isn’t a spare minute in the day, even one unexpected change can send the whole plan into a spin.
Because when you run a small business, there’s no colleague to step in, no one to pick up the extra jobs, and no magic button to press when life throws you a curveball. It’s just you, juggling all the plates and trying to make it work.
But somehow, I did it.
Every single booking went ahead. Every display was delivered on time. Every commitment was honoured.
Behind every beautiful setup is a real person, a family, a whole lot of planning, and sometimes a mum doing her absolute best to keep all the balls in the air.
I’m sharing this not for sympathy, but as a little reminder that small businesses are run by real people. People who care deeply about what they do, who want to show up for their customers, but who are also parents, partners and human beings navigating life along the way.
So, if you run a small business and you’ve had one of those weekends too… I see you!
