✨SATURDAY✨

REPOST •

Wowzers! It’s happening. Super excited to announce I have a collection of poems coming out next month with .press’s Yaffle’s Nest imprint. In the whirlwind of mama life I’m only just catching a moment to let the world know. Being present in my days with this beautiful babe means socials + the dreaded self promo take a back seat.

I’ve been around for a while, so some might say it’s about time - but it feels good and right to be birthing this book just now. Almost one year on from the birth of my actual human daughter and a couple of months after The Big 4.0. Here we are. The witch-in-progress in printed format.

I like the idea of holding the world I’ve inhabited in my head for so long in my own two hands. As a dancer and a poet, it’s not often you get to do that. Performance and poetry being more ephemeral in essence. This book is a landmark in my life - I owe myself some moments to celebrate, take pleasure, bask in the lushness of my word-ling labours.

You can support me + my semi-autobiographical magical-realist coming-of-age tale in poetry format by buying a book (pre-order now live - see link in bio) and/or coming to a gig (see slide 2, more to follow). These are the poems that made me, as much as I crafted them, and it would mean the world. You would also be helping out a skint self-employed artist post-maternity leave!

I’ve put my witchy little heart and soul into those pages. Hopefully they will land somewhere useful and nourishing in yours... Perhaps a poem might light a little spark, raise a mini rebellion or touch a place in you that didn’t know it needed soothing...

Huge thanks to all those who mentored, supported or otherwise gave me a leg up to get these words out into the world. .press and ofc my nearest + dearest pals and fam.

Gratitude to .bove.arts for the gorgeous images. Published with the generous support of a Bravado Grant from .

With love

🌟OPEN TO SUBMISSIONS🌟

MINIATURE MUSES is our upcoming art & poetry fundraiser. We’ll be popping up at the lovely for one night ahead of the festival this summer and filling the space with art and poetry. The exhibition art sale is open now for submissions and you can find the call-out in the link below 👩🏼‍🎨

🌟DETAILS🌟

The pop-up exhibition will feature as many miniature artworks as we can fit in the space and everything will be for sale. All art must be 6x4 inches but all 2D mediums are welcome: we want watercolours, oils, portraits, landscapes, abstract, inks, carvings and prints*!

There is a flexible commission/donation rate which means you, the artist, gets to decide how much Leeds Poetry Festival keep from the sale. The basic is 30% commission but you can donate 50%, 75%, or 100% if you’d like to (and no one will know but us 🤐)

There’s a £4 submission fee per artwork and you can submit up to 4 pieces. You can read more about what the fee covers on the Opportunity’s page along with all the important dates ☺️

Please share with your artist friends & family!

*only single-issue hand printed originals will be accepted. No digital prints or giclée prints please! We also cannot accept digital art or ai-generated art for this exhibition.

🌟POEM CLUB🌟

We’ve only introduced you to one of our Poem Club poets so far so here’s another! In January, we read poetry from Joe Williams.

Joe Williams is a writer and performing poet from Leeds. His latest book is ‘The Taking Part’, a pamphlet of poems on the theme of sport and games, published by Maytree Press. His other work includes the pamphlet ‘This is Virus’, a sequence of erasure poems made from Boris Johnson’s letter to the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the verse novella ‘An Otley Run’, which was shortlisted in the Best Novella category at the 2019 Saboteur Awards. Despite all of that, he is probably most widely read thanks to his contributions to Viz.

Events:

Joe hosts the regular poetry event Chemistry at the Chemic Tavern in Woodhouse, Leeds. Chemistry is held on the last Friday of the odd-numbered months, usually featuring two headline poets and an open mic, with an optional theme based on the elements of the periodic table. 2025 dates: 31 January, 28 March, 30 May, 25 July, 26 September, 28 November. More info at https://joewilliams.co.uk/performance/chemistry/
