Hi All, Falkirk Golf club is now booked for Sun 28th Sept, can you please email [email protected] if you wish to play and also if you wish to eat :) (also just those that wish to eat). Also can you please try to send this message out to those that aren't normally active on email, FB etc. (send them a letter if you need to) lets get some of the OG players back. John Andrew is one name that comes to mind.

HI All

And we're back, The Ashes 2025 has been provisionally booked for Sunday 28th Sept at Falkirk Golf Club with a tee off of 12pm.

I say provisionally because if anyone has a valid reason for not hosting it there I'll change it however this is the easiest option with cheap golf and catering onsite.

£28 for golfers, £15.00 for adult food, (they are coming back to me if they can do anything for child food prices).

Can you start spreading the word (save the date etc) and giving me an indication in the comments below or on whatsapp if you are likely to attend.

Thanks

The Raymond Brown Family Ashes: A 24-Year Legacy of Golf, Family, and Heartfelt Traditions
For 24 years, the Raymond Brown Family Ashes has brought family, friends, and unforgettable moments together. This year was no exception. On September 28th, we gathered at The Shropshire Golf Course, despite a smaller turnout due to illness and even “royal” duties!, the presence of co-founder Prys, Our amazing cousin Yvonne and their Australian crew, brought extra warmth to the event, bridging both continents and generations.
The pre-tournament fun began at The Clocktower Pub, where the usual suspects—Steve, Stef, and Charlie—ended up at the wrong golf course, courtesy of s**t Googling. Over pints and banter, the group shared past glories and infamous tales, while Kev quietly recalibrated the next day's handicaps with each exaggerated story. It became clear: the more the stories flowed, the more the handicaps shifted!
Game day arrived, and Michael Sr., true to form, fuelled up with a Biera Moretti for breakfast. Meanwhile, Donny and James wisely hit the driving range, only to earn themselves a two-shot handicap cut. Not so wise maybe? Stef, the only woman on the course after last year’s convincing by Kathleen, was a lone but proud female representative. Her perseverance was inspiring, reminding us all that it’s not about winning but being part of the family tradition. Which is probably just as well, 😊
The golf itself was full of standout moments: Donny’s spectacular shot that landed within a foot of the hole from 160 yards, Kev chipping in for a birdie, Michael Jr. losing his ball in a flooded bunker, and Michael Sr. impressively chasing his runaway trolley at full speed—at age 72! We were urgently looking for a defibrillator whilst standing in awe of the speed and prowess of this pi**ed up 72yr old. We feel he will sleep well tonight.
After the game, we gathered in the clubhouse for a well-earned dinner, minus Donny and James, who were busy dealing with a car-lockout at their Air B&B, only to be saved by some local lock-picking "specialists" from Telford (you can’t make this up!). Over dinner, we raised a toast to absent friends, particularly Raymond and just this year, previous attendee Denis McGeever, whose memory and loss was felt deeply throughout the day. They are all forever in our hearts.
This year brought a historic first: two winners! Tom and Prys both scored 39 points, and after a back-nine countback couldn’t separate them, they shared the coveted prize.
The night concluded with our cherished tradition—the burning of the winner's card, placing the ashes into our beloved whisky bottle( some say next to Grandma) . The moment was a beautiful reminder of the bond that ties us all together, a family tradition that transcends the game itself.
As we look ahead to 2025, our Silver Jubilee, we hope to see more faces at Grangemouth. It's not just a tournament—it’s a celebration of family, friends, and the memories that keep us coming back year after year. Whether you’re an original member or new to the family, we invite you to join us for this milestone event. Let’s make the 25th year the best one yet—golf, laughter, and love all rolled into one.
Sláinte to the Raymond Brown Family Ashes—and to all who make it the magical event it is! See you at Grangemouth!

Pinch, Punch........etc. Right been busy but we are now only a few weeks away and to this end I popped up to Barry's to Collect the Prize.

So who's going to win it this year, will it end up back in Australia? Will it not be won again by Donny?

I'll finalise the details with the club this week and come back to you all about green fees and food but it will be really great to see you all down here contesting the Ashes once again.

Still space for more should anyone change their mind about coming down to play.

Good afternoon all, its been a bit quiet but we're now only a couple of months till the ashes so I thought I'd start to wake the group up and remind you to get your clubs cleaned, in some cases that will involve WD40 and a Brillo pad. I'll be chasing every one for food and payment at the end of the month. bigest request from me, is that people who still want to play and haven;t committed yet please do so. and please spread the word to all past players and attendees as I don;t have everyones contact details.

******Please note that the date for the Ashes 2024 has been brought forward by one day to the Saturday 28th Sept 2024******

I have paid the deposit for the day so let's get you all confirmed asap.

Costs for the Golf = £38 which includes Bacon and coffee on arrival (for the golfers)

£5.00 for the prize fund (for the golfers only)

Adult 2 course meal £19.00
Child 2 course meal £14.00

So this would break down for me (£38+£19+£5) = £62.00

The venue is linked here (I've requested the silver and gold courses but we get what we're given on the day of the three course available)

I have reserved a number of rooms at the very local White House Hotel In Muxton. they are on a frist come first served basis but it would be great if we could get everyone in the same hotel for the two nights. You have to book your own room.

https://www.whitehouse-hotel.org.uk/

Now for the Saturday night and Sunday Night (2 nights) inc breakfast, the Costs are as follows.

Single Room £208

Double Room / Twin Room £238

Now if you book in advance he double will cost £218 but this is paid up front with no refund policy.

The Hotel is pretty close to the golf course.

please please don;t leave this till the last minute as the closest hotel outside this is in Telford Town Centre.

There is a premier inn around the corner from the WHite house charging £124 per night but that probably will fluctuate at the time of booking and I'm not sure it includes Breaksfast.

Over to you all.
