A slightly different Tuesday at work 🚀

Yesterday I headed to the National Space Centre in Leicester for Avionaut’s Mission Innovation event!

There are some very exciting new launches on the way, and I’ve got LOTS to show you.

One of my favourite parts of running Car Seats Plus is getting the opportunity to see what’s coming, ask all the nerdy questions and work out which products I actually want to bring back to the showroom for you.

Getting the fit right on the Axkid Minikid 4 Max 🚗

As your little one grows, the inserts come out in stages 👇

1️⃣ Side panels first
2️⃣ Then the thighs
3️⃣ Then the back panel
4️⃣ And finally the bottom (sometimes the back and bottom come out together)

Taking them out in the right order keeps the fit snug and correct at every stage, what age each bit happens will depends on your child size.

Majority of nursery bundles sell you a lovely pushchair with a car seat that feels like a budget afterthought - it’s one thing most customers mention when they visit in store.

A lot of standard travel systems include a car seat that puts newborns into a deep C-shape curve.

A newborn’s head is roughly a quarter of their entire body weight, and when their head drops forward onto their chest, their airway pinches shut.

It’s not just about reaching the minimum age, height or weight, your child needs to be developmentally ready too.

1️⃣ They’ve outgrown their current harnessed seat
If they still fit safely in a suitable harnessed seat, ideally rear facing up to 125cm, there’s no rush to move them on just because they’ve started school.

2️⃣ They can sit properly for the WHOLE journey
No leaning forward, slouching, wriggling out of position or reaching down for dropped toys. A high-back booster relies on your child staying in the correct position for the seatbelt to protect them.

3️⃣ The seatbelt fits them correctly
The lap belt should sit low across the hips/pelvis, not across the tummy, and the shoulder belt should run across the centre of their shoulder, not their neck or arm.

And remember: starting school doesn’t automatically mean it’s time for a booster. 🎒

Some children will be ready earlier than others, and there’s absolutely no prize for moving up a stage quickly.

The Recaro Axion 1 in Hello Green looking right at home next to a Defender wrapped by 💚
