Holy smokes. What a couple of days, and yet another reminder of why in-person activity is the best.

I had no idea what to expect from Mark Masters' You Are The Media event when I booked an early bird ticket last July, but I am so glad I did.

I just got back from Creator Day in Poole. My focus was to meet some new people, hopefully hear a couple of interesting talks, and enjoy being somewhere new. My expectations weren't much higher than that.

Well, those expectations were blown out the park.

All of the talks were absolute 🔥 .

The perfect blend of warm, relatable, funny - but also informative, educational and leaving you with something you wanted to take forward for yourself both personally and professionally. They were flawlessly delivered, yet accessible.

As a community that is already in existence, I had anticipated possibly feeling a bit like a 'newbie'. No need. Everyone I met was SO friendly, really genuine and thoroughly inclusive.

The day was rounded off with a small workshop session yesterday afternoon, and a dip in the sea this morning. Absolutely top drawer.

Massive thanks Mark - and I highly recommend Creator Day to anyone considering a new event to try out next year.

I was asked recently what I do, and if I have changed how I work because I'm using different language, so here's a quick run down of my services as an IRL Marketing Consultant:

🔥STRATEGY - Using three, distinct high-impact channels to focus your IRL Marketing activity and clearly track ROI from your events. I work with you to make sure the juice is worth the squeeze.

💫 MENTORSHIP -  A six-month mentorship framework that supports junior and developing IRL Marketing teams through accountability, confidence building, and knowledge sharing.

💥 PRODUCTION - Got events that need managing? Twenty years of this is how I can do the first two above. If you're short on people on the ground to lead or deliver, I can help.

I work with time-poor senior leaders who have ambitious, specific growth objectives; need a focused IRL Marketing strategy, and who are ready to step out of the weeds of managing their teams day-to-day so they can lead effectively.

I help SMEs, organisations such as the ONS, local government bodies, award-winning higher education institutions, global charities, and medical associations.

🫵 Several projects have come to a close at the turn of the financial year, and I have capacity! If you or someone in your network needs support and direction with their IRL Marketing activity, developing their teams or managing their events, point them my way.

My DMs are open or you can get me on email - [email protected] 🌟

I was thinking about former managers and bosses over the weekend, trying to count how many I’ve had. It’s easy to just think about the ‘career’ ones, but when I go back to temp jobs, uni jobs, part-time roles… there was always someone to report to, and they all brought something different. Some felt like mentors. Some felt like friends. I fancied a couple of them ( 🫨 Hi, 18-year-old me. Not cool).

The best bosses I’ve had were the ones who supported and developed me at the same time. A good balance of carrot and stick. It felt safe to get things wrong, it was celebrated when you got things right, and that made you want to meet expectations.

I used to think the worst ones were the bosses who were all pressure and no diamonds. Nothing was ever good enough, yet there wasn’t the opportunity to work closely enough with them to improve. To learn how each other works. To actually feel like a team.

I realise now that those were often the people under the most pressure themselves. Frustrated, stretched too thin - pulled into delivery while still carrying responsibility for the bigger picture, with little capacity left to support their teams.

In the current economic climate, we’ve seen cuts across multiple industries. Middle management has disappeared, leaving junior team members with huge potential and senior leaders with little time to develop them. Add generational differences into the mix, and it can feel like a challenging hive of dissatisfied bees.

This is where I can help.

I’ve developed a six-month mentorship framework to support junior and developing IRL marketing teams through accountability, confidence building and knowledge sharing.

We work through the sticky, day-to-day challenges that stall progress, building capability and autonomy so your weekly 1-1s move the business forward rather than simply ticking off tasks.

I’ve used these tools with the ONS, multiple local government organisations, self-owned small businesses and creatives across B2B and B2C sectors.

If you’re a time-poor senior leader with clear growth ambitions and a team full of potential, I can help you create the space to lead, while your team builds the skills to deliver.

I delivered a Strategy Day in the city centre yesterday, and from the moment I stepped out of the car I was reminded why in-person stuff is the hecking best.

🌷The spring flowers in Southernhay Gardens are absolutely stunning.

The guy who made my coffee in was chipper AF and a total delight to exchange Monday morning joy with.

The window display in is insanely aesthetically pleasing, and I could stick my head in the shop and tell them so because I was actually physically there.

I’m not anti-AI. But it cannot and will not replace the human experience.

Events have had a tough ride the last few years, and at present there is an awful lot of chat about all the services, jobs and products AI is apparently able to substitute.

But IRL experiences are not one of them, and for the first time in a long time, I think events are able to very tangibly prove their worth beyond the profit margin - and it’s by being there in-person.

I’m going to start sharing moments like the ones above more regularly.

IRL FOR THE WIN!

A pleasure and a privilege to spend the morning with and mapping out the strategy for this year’s iconic Devon Business League.

These two ambitious, purpose-driven, powerhouse organisations are partnering once again to deliver one of the most impactful charity events for the third year running.

We focused on streamlining delivery for this fast-growing project, which is being run alongside full-time roles. We also shaped a unified communications plan that puts participants front and centre, and explored how to make the most of the in-person events that drive essential income for the charity.

The DBL generates vital support for Hospiscare, helping those living with a terminal illness across Exeter and Devon.

It also offers a powerful and unique platform for Devon businesses to connect, collaborate...and compete.

Working with this group today was a front-row seat to what’s possible when values, passion, friendship and sharp commercial thinking come together. They are smart, creative, committed and a real asset to our business community.

Thanks for having me team, can't wait to see you raise the bar once again this season!

I REALLY don't want to be 'that guy' but...

I've been kind of looking forward to January this year?!

Usually, I absolutely detest it. It fills me with anxiety and apprehension and a weird kind of pressure to 'be fantastic' before the year has even begun.

All the 'New Year, new me' BS flying around never sat right with me, when everything in nature is dead and it is still dark 15 hours a day.

My enthusiasm for this month and the New Year might be in part due to December and the last quarter of last year being FULL ON, and looking forward to the next chapter of the business and balancing work and family life (yaaaassss Year of the Horse...).

It might be in part due to some really fantastic personal work I did with last summer, and the results of that meaning I continue to lean into how I am actually feeling - rather than how I think I should be feeling.

AND it might be in part due to the fact that I've got some really cool events to look forward to this month - like this one!!

I'm on the panel of Never Have I Ever - Freelancer Edition, hosted by - alongside and another panellist soon to be revealed.

It's a fun, frank and for-real chat about all things freelancing, and you can join us on 20th January at 18:30, at the on Exeter Quay.

Details at the link in my stories - and there are only 25 tickets up for grabs!

Hope to see you there - and remember, however you're feeling in this first week of Jan, is exactly where you're supposed to be. Good or bad, it won't last all year - we just keep moving!

May 2026 be a glorious one 🌟

This time next week, it will all be over...

Anyone that has run events will know, the week before you're live is peak energy. It's the nervy bit, and it's the super exciting bit.

For The Speaker Strategy, the most exciting parts right now are:

🗣️ The format
🗣️ The speakers
🗣️ The people in the room

The opportunity for learning, valuable conversation, insight and action is going to be huge.

The guestlist is a kaleidoscope of talent, industry and input.

I'm talking...

💡 Agencies
💡 Recruitment
💡 Hospitality
💡 Professional Services
💡 Private members clubs
💡 Health & wellness
💡 Consultants
💡 Coaches
💡 Tourism
💡 Venues
💡 Public speakers
💡 Suppliers
..to name but a few.

Don't see your industry on there?

Do you want to?

There's still a few tickets left for next Thursday. Don't miss this unique melting pot of perspective and the chance to level up how you run events - or how you speak at them - in 2026.

See you there. 👀

1 December and the year is nearly out, so I have a question for you:

How have you developed this year?

What have you learned?

And which parts of that were by choice rather than by chance?

I have been promoting The Speaker Strategy over the past couple of weeks and it has led to some brilliant conversations.

I asked my network to share the event with someone they felt would benefit, and a number of people said:

"Oh, that would be great for so-and-so. They still have some CPD hours to complete and this would be perfect."

Music to my ears, because that is exactly what The Speaker Strategy is for:

💡 Education
💡 Inspiration
💡 Levelling up

If you know someone completing their CPD who works in event creation and is ready to level up in 2026, tag them below and share the 🎟 link:

✨R O C K S T A R✨

A personal post this morning! The woman in this photo is my glorious sister George, who is also an artist, mama and celebrant .

She's been training for Birmingham in aid of and has two weeks til game day.

This woman Puts. The. Hours. In and I am so hecking proud of her.

She's sat here with her eldest daughter, my little boy and our dad on his birthday this week. Since 2020, Dad has fought off bowel cancer that moved through his liver and his lung; has undergone three operations and rounds of chemo and radiotherapy. Two weeks ago he had his second lot of clear results, meaning that it's now one year without any sign of the cancer spreading further. 💪🏼

George is doing Hyrox in aid of which understandably is a cause close to our hearts, and she's £30 off her target!!!! If you've got a fiver to spare today, drop her a donation to cheer her on.

Link in my stories or DM me and I'll send it to you.

Thank you for the support, and much love and light to you all this autumn Friday! 🍁🧡🌞
