A huge thank you to Thompsons of York who gave us permission to use their weighbridge on the morning of our event on Thursday 👏👏

Thompsons Of York work with animal feed and distribution, and have weigh bridges that are officially calibrated, certified, and also recommend by City of York Council.

When we arrived at 11am we discovered that the public weigh bridge was actually out-of-use and ready for repair… The event was due to start at 1pm… 😱😱

Thankfully, one of the managers who we had been in contact with, was able to go the extra mile and help us out! He is a cancer survivor himself and wanted nothing more than to help us ❤️

Round the back they have 2 private weighbridges which are not normally open to the public. On this special occasion they allowed us to access one of these, complete with all the certificates we needed as well 🙌

Each of the vans weighed between 1.54 - 1.58 tonnes, which more than met the requirements, and as they were measured on the day, and verified by our independent witnesses, we were then good to go and head back to the airfield 😎🤩👏

A day like this is never short of challenges that need to be overcome, but overcome they were 😎

Thank you Thompsons Of York once again! You saved the day and made it all possible. Thank you 🙏

Incredible timelapse from The Extra Mile 2022 this week 😃

An official Guinness World Record attempt doesn’t just require the athletes to be on point, but also the technology and the team that help to evidence and authenticate such a massive attempt.

One of the many challenges we faced was how to capture video from at least 2 static perpendicular angles while recording for the whole 24 hours… to make this even more challenging, there was no electricity nearby to power the cameras… and the runway was so long (1 mile in each direction) that you couldn’t always see all the way to the other end at times (even with the naked eye!!) 🤪

So our team prepared well by having a number of different cameras positioned at both ends, along the route, and with plenty of memory, with wide angles where possible, a series of solar powered power banks with spares just in case, systems in place to record laps, times, and distances, breaks and the number of hours drivers were helping to steer for so they wouldn’t exceed their maximum allowance according to the rules (and that’s just a small part of it!) 😅

Gathering evidence is almost harder to get right than the actual van pull itself!! But that’s how you make it official, otherwise anyone could claim to have broken a record, and that’s why Guinness World Records have the reputation they do 👏

So far so good, it looks like everything has come together. Hoping and praying we did everything we needed to do 🙏👍

BBC Radio Lancashire Interview - PART 2

This morning James, John and Dan have been really privileged to join the team at BBC Radio Lancashire as guests during their breakfast show.

You can really hear the heart behind the attempt, the reasons why they did this, and why James and John finished together rather than James pressing ahead at the end ❤️
