Hurrah! Noh Training Project UK is back again for 2025 at beautiful Royal Holloway, University of London!
With options for a weekend taster, a 7-day intensive beginner's workshop, or a full-blown 13 day experience with tuition from Japanese noh master Akira Matsui, there's something for anyone who is interested in performance forms, Japanese culture, or yoga-style physical training.
Especially, if you've ever wondered 'what is this strange art form where characters glide across a polished wooden floor under a shrine roof like ghosts (spoiler: they often ARE playing ghosts) in wooden masks and woven kimonos, chanting centuries-old poetry, accompanied by instruments that make your ears feel you've entered another world entirely?' - then come join us, and you will find out!
Everyone welcome, all classes given in (or translated into) English, reasonably priced on campus accommodation available. How can you refuse?
Further information below or on our website nohtrainingprojectuk.org. Or get in touch: DM here, email us at [email protected] or direct course director Dr Ashley Thorpe ([email protected]).
Looking forward to hearing from you!
NB: Noh Training Project UK is the only intensive noh workshop of its kind in Europe. It is the brainchild of Noh Training Project founder Richard Emmert, whose legacy has seen the birth of summer intensive noh workshops in the US, Japan (and now Taiwan!) as well as international troupe Theatre Nohgaku, which produced new noh in the English language, in association with professional Japanese noh actors and musicians.
