It’s not very often than I’m absolutely blown away by a band after seeing them for the first time (I’m rather old, and I’ve seen thousands of bands over the years). It’s even rarer that I’m blow away by a tribute. It happened tonight at St Luke’s in Glasgow, with Slow Pilot’s tribute to Jeff Buckley.

Slow Pilot has a pedigree - with members that have played with Hooverphonic and other top Belgian bands - and their own material is critically-acclaimed, so this is not your usual tribute band, but nothing prepared me for quite how good they are. I can’t remember the last time I had so many people come to the box office to say how much they were enjoying a band.

Guitarist and lead vocalist Pieter Peirsman‘s crystal clear voice is uncannily reminiscent of Jeff Buckley’s, and the band are all superb musicians.

They’re playing The Voodoo Rooms tomorrow night (Wed 2nd Sept), on stage at 8.00pm. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
