Premièring on Broadway in 2006, Sater and Sheik's revolutionary folk-rock musical retelling of Wedekind's banned masterpiece was a triumphant success, scooping several prestigious awards including Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Score alongside 4 Drama Desk Awards and 4 Olivier Awards. Sater and Sheik's emphatic score explores the journey from adolescence to adulthood with unmissable poignan
cy and passion. Following the lives of 10 schoolchildren, 'Spring Awakening' presents an unforgiving account of the hard-hitting issues which dominate the lives of younger generations, seeking to expose the deeper truths in their longings and desires through show-stopping numbers such as 'Mama who bore me', 'Don't do Sadness' and 'I Believe'.
'Spring Awakening' is performed by Fringe veterans Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group who return to the Fringe following a string of five-star successes ('Company', 'HMS Pinnafore', 'Rent', 'The Pirates of Penzance'). www.springawakeningfringe.co.uk
