https://sites.google.com/view/sketchy-beats/home Sketchy Beats is a not-for-profit arts space on Great Junction Street, Leith. The space is an open platform for creatives of any kind to use and share their ideas with the public. The concept started off as an experimental life drawing event, incorporating a live musician, a dancer, a nude model and a live DJ set. This took place once a month in the basement of Yellow Bench on Leith Walk. As this event gained popularity, money was raised through a crowdfunding campaign to create a community space where creative concepts like this could happen every night. The space is designed to be affordable and accessible to everyone - people who have never organised events before, musicians who have never played outside their own bedroom, artists who have never exhibited before. It aims to be a space where creativity brings the community together, without money being an obstacle. Everything in the space is donation-based. If you want a cup of tea or coffee, you can help yourself and leave a small donation. If you want to bring your own alcohol, just leave a donation for corkage. If you want to organise your own event, it's free to book, we just ask for a donation from each person who comes in. If you are interested in booking the space for your own event, workshop, meet-up or rehearsal, send us a message! You can also book online through our website:

We’re raising £525 to cover the repair of the front door at Sketchy Beats.

13/09/2026

Our front door has seen many faces pass through it over the past decade. It’s survived being broken into, shot at by pellet guns and has been forced to put up with ten years’ worth of creative antics. It's impressive it's lasted this long!

Sadly, a couple of weeks ago, its aging joints seized up and it got itself into a bit of a jam. It’s quite an old design with some unusual parts, so fixing it wasn’t as simple as we’d originally hoped.

Mowley, of the collective, kindly volunteered to find someone willing and able to take on the job. After waiting for some obscure parts to arrive, our front door is now back in action!

The repair came to a total of £525, which Mowley very generously paid for out of his own pocket. We’re hoping to raise the funds to pay Mowley back as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the funding we received from
can only go towards our weekly art classes - it can’t be used for repairs or the general running costs of the space.

We’ll be organising some fundraising events over the next few weeks and we’ve also set up a Crowdfunder, for anyone who would like to help but isn’t able to make it along in person.

So, if you’ve ever been one of those faces who has walked through our door, please spare a few pennies to help us pay for its repair!

Hopefully, we can keep this slightly battered but much-loved door open for many more years to come.

Every donation, however small, is hugely appreciated.

Thank you for reading and thank you for helping keep Sketchy Beats going!

Next month marks ten years of Fuzz Bat gigs 🦇

Delighted to still be making cool gigs happen (after deciding to put my old band and some friends' acts on for some fun a while ago) even though it's full on at times! Forever grateful for the wonderful diy community of musicians, artists, punters and venue staff🙏

I figured celebrating with a delightful weekender featuring a bunch of terrific acts (some familar faces and some who have never played one of my shows) made sense ✨️

The first ever Fuzz Bat Gig took place at Sketchy Beats Cafe on 16th October 2016 and this weekender kicks off exactly ten years later. This is the 95th Fuzz Bat Gig (110th if you include the collab gigs) and will take place at St Vincent's Chapel on Fri 16th and Home Bar + Leith Depot on Sat 17th ⛪️ 🏡

Fri eve features performances from bell lungs, R Denham, Sophia Djebel Rose, Aurora Engine and a mystery guest 🎵

While Sat features performances from The Chunks, Fistymuffs and Haystack Monolith in the afternoon and from Seas, Starry, Count Florida, Riarki + Hersel and Elephant Ballroom in the evening 🎶

Perry O'Bray of Buffet Lunch + Good Grief Gigs designed the cracking poster 🎨

Tickets available via the link below for the whole weekend or specific sections. See link or poster for prices and door times. Low income options available too or free if skint. DIY punk gigs are inclusive to all after all and should always be that way as long as you're nice 🔥

Anyways hope to see a bunch of folks there. Huge huge love and thanks to anyone who has been involved with making the last ten years of gigs so special 💚
