🌾 Two stories of rural life through different lenses: 'Minari' + 'Their Accounts'

📍 Skye Bridge Studios, Kyle of Lochalsh

📆 Saturday 21 February, 7-9:30pm

Minari (2020) follows a Korean-American family pursuing their dreams on a small Arkansas farm - a beautiful meditation on home, family, and what we plant for the future.

Paired with 'Their Accounts' (Hannah Hunter, 2024), a locally-rooted short blending archive and animation to capture Ardnamurchan's story through its young voices.

Stay for a conversation with filmmaker Hannah Hunter after the screening, hosted by Arlo from Eden Court Theatre and Cinema Youth Board.

🌻Community amidst chaos: Programmed by five wonderful young people from Hot Chocolate Trust Hot Chocolate Trust ! Following delicious food and a screening of Knit’s Island, the young people will lead us in cosy conversation around the importance of nurturing community in both virtual and physical spaces.

🎬Knit’s Island: Three curious film-makers step virtually into a post-apocalyptic online game, and learn from other players how survivalist gameplay can create a sense of community. The resulting film documents how a virtual reality where survival is contingent on cooperation can displace players’ real-life feelings of loneliness and hopelessness in an ever-increasingly individualistic world. Directed by Ekiem Barbier, Quentin L’Helgoualc’h, Guilhem Causse.

🏡Hot Chocolate Trust is a Youth Work organisation, based in Dundee city centre. It is open to all young people without prejudice or distinction of religion, race, culture, health, disability, gender, hair colour, sexuality or politics. The only restrictions are of age: secondary school age up to 21 yrs old.

🎬 NIÑXS: In the rural small town of Tepoztlán, Mexico, fifteen-year-old Karla gets to tell her own coming-of-age story as she navigates the joys and complexities of trans adolescence. Irresistibly warm and funny, NIÑXS bursts the seams of documentary convention by dissolving the distance between filmmaker and subject.

✨ Leyla Hussain (she/her) is a Scottish-Pakistani Creative Practitioner from Dundee and is based there. Hussain is an installation artist and writer, currently specialising in making ambient soundscapes and film, metalwork sculpture, and graphic markmaking inspired by Arabic and Urdu calligraphy and esoteric symbols. She creates works and environments that have a presence, a sense of catharsis, grief and yearning. By exploring the intersections of religion and the human condition, she creates work with a sense of discomfort and reflection.

🎮 KNIT'S ISLAND
👉 Sun 9 November | 3pm at Hot Chocolate

We're delighted to have a film and post-screening workshop curated by the young people at Hot Chocolate Trust as part of our inaugural Dundee festival! 🤩

In 'Knit's Island', three curious film-makers step virtually into post-apocalyptic survivalist game DayZ, and learn from other players how cooperative gameplay can create a sense of community.

From Hot Chocolate: "You may have noticed that these are increasingly polarised and pressurised times - politically, societally, mentally, digitally, economically, and interpersonally! Come in out of the storm for a while and join some of the young people from Hot Chocolate Trust as they simply share space to talk together, play together, make together, eat together, dream together. Share thoughts on the film, make new friends from an audience of strangers, and explore together how we might create some community amidst the chaos!"
