Great news, we have Joe Thompson confirmed for Splinter frame 2023 doing his talk on "What sort of a joint do you call that?"
A fresh look at the sorts of joints timber-framers have used in the past and still use today and their names. The idea for the talk came about because some of my students were asking me "what do you call this?" or "what's the name of this type of joint" and whilst commonly seen in timber-framed buildings they are rarely illustrated or named in any text book. Its a carpenter's perspective, based on lining out, cutting and fitting the joints.
