🎃🦇👻
🎃 Hallowe’en is nearly here! Whether you're carving pumpkins, enjoying fireworks or heading out trick-or-treating, there are a few simple ways to keep the season safe, considerate and environmentally friendly.
🎃 Don't bin the good bits!
Carving pumpkins are grown to be extra hollow, but any flesh you scoop out can still make a great soup, and the seeds can be roasted for a tasty snack - or choose an eating variety which look just as good when carved.
🎃 Recycle your pumpkin
When Hallowe'en is over, pop your pumpkin into your food waste caddy or compost bin. If it doesn't fit inside, leave it on top. It will be turned into renewable energy and nutrient-rich compost!
🎃 Buy local
Not bought your pumpkin yet? Support local farm shops and market traders by choosing a locally grown pumpkin. It's a great autumn day out, helps local businesses and can mean fewer food miles.
And don't forget...
🐾 Look after pets
Fireworks can be stressful for animals. Keep pets indoors where possible, close curtains, play calming music and make sure their microchip details are up to date.
🎆 Celebrate fireworks responsibly
Organised displays are often the safest and most considerate option. If you're setting off fireworks at home, let neighbours know in advance and be mindful of people, animals and wildlife nearby.
🍬 Be considerate when trick-or-treating
Not everyone welcomes a knock on the door at night, so please respect "No Trick or Treat" signs, accompany younger children, and take any litter home with you.
Thank you for making Hallowe’en enjoyable for everyone 😊
