📷 CAPTURING THE VIBE: THE ART OF SMALL VENUE PHOTOGRAPHY

Are you an aspiring music photographer wanting to learn how to capture the atmosphere, energy and emotion of live music in small and intimate venues?

John Lyons Photographer, winner of the Live Music category in the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards 2022, is hosting an exclusive talk and hands-on photography workshop in Durham this October as part of the Abbey Road MPA Skills Hub.

The session will explore the art of photographing live music in intimate venues - from working with challenging lighting and limited space to capturing those split-second moments that tell the story of a performance.

📅 Thursday 1 October; 5.00pm - 8.00pm
📍 Durham Jazz Festival Gallery + Fabio’s Bar, Durham
🎟 FREE – limited to just 8 places

Following the workshop (which will be approximately 3 hours), participants will have the opportunity to:

📷Hear John talking about his technique and style, with hints and tips based on his experience
🎶 Put their skills into practice photographing a live jazz group at Fabio’s Bar
💬 Submit images for feedback and critique from John
🎷 Apply their new skills as an official Durham Jazz Festival photographer at selected performances from 23–25 October

Whether you’re an emerging music photographer, photography student or simply passionate about capturing live performance, this is a rare opportunity to develop your skills in a real small-venue environment.

Places are extremely limited. If you would like to attend this session, please email: [email protected], putting ‘PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP’ in the title.
