Elvet Green Durham update!

*** Important Update***

Dear friends and supporters,

We are excited to share with you an important update about the future of our humble community project. After much deliberation and many discussions with our directors, volunteers, and other stakeholders, we have decided to transition our name from ‘H**p Garden Community Association’ to simply trade as ‘HGCA’.

It’s not just the CIC that is changing its name. We are also pleased to announce that from today, the park formerly known as ‘H**p Garden’ will be officially renamed to ‘Elvet Green’.

Why are we changing the name?

Over the last few years, the project has grown exponentially. What started as a small, volunteer-led grassroots initiative to revitalise the former bowling green into a sustainable, multifunctional community space has evolved into a far broader community project encompassing wellbeing, culture, heritage, environmentalism, wildlife preservation, and community engagement. We feel our new name better reflects this and what the project has become.

What is going to change?

Although we are changing our name, we will continue to maintain and enhance the community garden and public park we have lovingly built over the last 8 years. Our ethics, values, and commitment to ‘Elvet Green’ remain unwavering, as does our determination to fight against its destruction.

What happens next?

Over the coming weeks, you’ll start to see updated signage on site and our name changing on social media and Google/Apple maps, etc. These changes won’t affect any of our ongoing projects; we are simply evolving to better represent who we are today.

Thank you for being part of this journey. With your continuing support, Elvet Green and HGCA will continue to thrive as a truly unique space for nature, creativity, and community.
