We'd like to thank our incredible funders and supporters for making Outwith 2026 possible 🙌

Their generosity and belief in the festival continues to enable us to bring high-quality, and affordable cultural events to the city ✨️

Just as importantly, it has also provided a great local platform for many up-and-coming creatives - such as young artists getting the opportunity to see their work exhibitited, perhaps for the first time. Or filmmakers seeing their shorts played on the big screen. Or allowing local bands and community choirs to perform live on stage 🎭

We've had a wonderful time this morning watching Discovery Shorts, a touring programme from Discovery Film Festival – Dundee Contemporary Arts' festival for young audiences ✨️

This Sunday, we are thrilled to be joined by filmmaker Laura Carreira for a screening of her award-winning debut feature, On Falling.

It tells the story of Aurora, a Portuguese migrant working as a warehouse picker in Edinburgh. Trapped between the confines of a vast distribution centre and the solitude of her own bedroom, Aurora seeks out every opportunity to resist the alienation and isolation that threaten her sense of self.

“Crafted with painstaking care, and features two strong lead performances that are thoughtfully translated to the screen by an empathetic lens” – Screen International

Winner: Best Director, San Sebastián International Film Festival 2024

it’s been a fantastic first day at Outwith Festival 2026!

this year’s festival kicked off with Outwith Contemporaries opening their 2026 exhibition, platform underrepresented and up-and-coming artists based in Scotland! this year’s exhibition has 6 artists from Dunfermline, and our featured artist hails from Trondheim, Norway!

We also had another busy exhibition opening with Fife Dunfermline Printmakers at Abbot House showing a variety of printmaking techniques and a great deal of skill!

Annotspace ✨ and fern hosted our first workshop of the festival, with a intuitive art evening that was both relaxing and refreshing for attendees!

to round the evening off, we all headed up to Carnegie Hall for the one and only Dunfermline Athletic FC big interview! It was fantastic to hear Neil discuss his growing up, mental health, and cultural loves!

Dunfermline, this is our moment. 🎭🎶🎬
Outwith Festival is BACK — Wednesday 2nd to Sunday 6th September — and this is more than just five days of gigs and gags. It's proof that a "small but mighty" city can punch above its weight culturally.

Built and run by volunteers since 2017, Outwith has grown into a genuine highlight of Dunfermline's calendar: theatre, film, comedy, art, workshops, and a music all-dayer, which in PJs this year.

This year even brings Neil Lennon in conversation at Carnegie Hall and Kes on the big screen with actor David Bradley.

Festivals like this don't survive on nostalgia — they survive because people show up. So here's the ask:
