Music in Dumfries Music in Dumfries promotes interest locally in a wide range of classical and contemporary chamber music.

We organise an annual season of six or more concerts of exceptionally high quality, from September to March, with varied programmes of inspiring music, performed by professional musicians from the UK and abroad. Concerts are held at St John's Church, Lovers Walk, Dumfries.

🎺 Season Finale Concert – Music in Dumfries 🎶

The final concert of the Music in Dumfries 2025–26 season takes place on Sunday 29 March at 3.00pm at The Bridge, Dumfries, featuring Brass Tracks, one of Scotland’s most exciting and engaging brass quintets.

Formed in 2013, Brass Tracks bring together musicians from a wide range of backgrounds including orchestral, theatre, television, chamber music and brass bands. They are passionate about making music accessible to everyone, performing everything from Renaissance works to contemporary favourites.

The group has performed in venues ranging from concert halls and cathedrals to Glasgow Central Station and major public events, and has also featured on BBC One’s Rillington Place and recordings with prog rock artist Fish (Marillion).

🎶 Music in Dumfries – Next Concert 🎶

We’re delighted to welcome the Fibonacci Quartet, one of Europe’s most exciting young string quartets, for our next concert at The Bridge.

Originally formed at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the Fibonacci Quartet are now a Resident Ensemble at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid and the Dutch String Quartet Academy in Amsterdam. They are prize-winners at numerous international competitions and, uniquely, the only ensemble ever to win both First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition.

They perform regularly across Europe and are frequently heard on BBC Radio 3 and other international broadcasts. This promises to be a superb afternoon of chamber music from one of the leading string quartets of their generation.

🎶 Music in Dumfries – January Concert 🎶

We’re delighted to welcome Rebecca Carson (flute) and Anne Chaurand (guitar) for a beautifully varied afternoon concert at The Bridge.

This inspiring duo brings together the idyllic pairing of flute and guitar, with music spanning Baroque elegance, French colour, Scottish influences and a Latin twist. Their programme includes works by Blavet, Debussy, Ibert and McGuire, alongside Villa-Lobos and Piazzolla.

Rebecca Carson has performed with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, including the BBC Symphony, Royal Philharmonic and English National Ballet, and is now based in Dumfries and Galloway, focusing on teaching, chamber music and solo work.
Anne Chaurand, originally from France, is an acclaimed soloist and chamber musician who has performed internationally for over forty years and now makes her home in rural Dumfries and Galloway.

For our next concert we’re delighted to be welcoming New Focus – the piano and saxophone duo of Euan Stevenson and Konrad Wiszniewski. They bring together classical music and jazz in a way that feels fresh, inventive and beautifully balanced.

🎼 Bach-style improvisations on jazz standards
🎷 Take the A Train as if written by Mozart
🎹 Music by Liszt, Satie, Gershwin, Miles Davis, Cole Porter – and original works by Euan Stevenson

About the Musicians:
Euan and Konrad are award-winning performers who’ve played at venues like Ronnie Scott’s, Celtic Connections, Perth Festival of the Arts, BBC Radio 3’s Southbank celebrations and more. Their album New Focus was shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year.

We’re delighted to announce not one, but two outstanding concerts this weekend – and if you come to the concert on Saturday 11th October, you’ll receive free admission to the concert the following afternoon!
