DJ Spoony takes to Main Stage this Friday 17th July at 9pm.

Influenced by reggae, calypso, pop and, above all, soul music, Spoony built the foundations of a career that would go on to shape a generation of club culture.

In the mid-1990s, Spoony joined pirate radio station London Underground, where he met fellow DJs Timmi Magic and Mikee B. Together, they formed the legendary Dreem Teem, a collective that would become synonymous with the rise of UK garage as it swept across the country.

The Dreem Teem’s success quickly led to high-profile radio slots on Kiss FM and Galaxy FM before they joined BBC Radio 1 in January 2000. During this period, the group became household names, achieving chart success and performing to audiences around the world as UK garage exploded into the mainstream.

Alongside his broadcasting career, Spoony became a key figure on the UK’s club circuit, holding a long-running residency with the iconic Twice As Nice brand and performing at some of the country’s biggest festivals, including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and The Southport Weekender.

Today, DJ Spoony remains one of the most respected names in British music, renowned for his exceptional ability to connect with audiences and deliver unforgettable sets packed with energy, nostalgia and feel-good vibes.

Jay hosts the Main Stage at Christchurch Music Festival on Friday 17th July, introducing the likes of The Real Thing, DJ Spoony, Shola Ama, Heatwave, Damage and Wonderband, alongside local favourites including Mike Artwell, Martyn the Hat, Jon Coomer, Bob Povey and more.
