Féile Derry

Féile Derry Community based festivals, events, workshops & creative training programmes.

In 1993, residents of the Bogside and Brandywell came together with community organisations to organise the first Gasyard Wall Féile. Since then, Féile Derry has provided events, festivals, workshops, fun days and creative training programmers throughout the year in a variety of locations in Derry. The Féile Festival takes place in August every year and has become the biggest arts and community cu

ltural festival in the North West, with over 20,000 people being brought to the city during the programme of events. The Féile involves numerous other organisations including Bogside & Brandywell Health Forum, Bogside & Brandywell Initiative, Dove House, Fountain Forum, Pilots Row, Bluebell Arts, Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin, Peace Walls Project and more! The Féile is only possible thanks to the commitment and hard work of a multitude of groups, volunteers and initiatives who come together each year to construct and deliver a fantastic and productive programme of events, which can be in the form of music, sport, education, literature, visual arts, carnivals, fun days, health, discussions, lectures & conferences, community consultation and tours.

Thank you to Mayor Ruairí McHugh for hosting Féile at the Guildhall today to celebrate the success of the festival and look ahead to a busy Féile 2026.

For 34 years, Féile has been at the heart of bringing people together to celebrate our neighbourhoods and the people who make our communities the best place to live, work, play and visit.

It was brilliant to be joined by many of our partners who are at the heart of the positive work happening across our communities, along with our staff and volunteers who work tirelessly all year to make Féile such a huge success.

We’re excited to announce that Féile 2026 will take place from 6th to 15th August. The excitement is already building! 🙌

Everyone at Féile is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Eamon McLaughlin.

Eamon was a much-loved community activist and youth worker, and a leading light in the development of Top of the Hill Celtic FC.

He was instrumental in creating opportunities for young people across the Waterside to flourish and reach their full potential through football, with many going on to play at the highest levels.

We had the absolute pleasure of working with Eamon last summer to produce a film celebrating the history of Top of the Hill Celtic. From our conversations with players and coaches, past and present, it was clear Eamon had an inspirational impact on so many lives.

Our thoughts are with Eamon’s family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.

“Where Cultures Bloom” ❤️

A brand new mural at Chapel Road created with Féile, Peaball and young people from all communities who came together to learn about the history of street art in Ireland and help shape a mural celebrating the many cultures, identities and traditions that call our city home.

The mosaic vase represents many separate pieces coming together as one, while the vibrant flowers reflect the individuality, creativity and beauty of different cultures living alongside one another to make our city bloom.

Young people from Our Space Youth Club, Hillcrest Trust Youth Club, Clooney Youth Club and North West Migrants Forum all took part in the project.

Supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

Young people were introduced to a whole new world of music, technology, animation and imagination through Féile’s Creative Days programme for local primary school pupils.

Across four creative sessions delivered in schools and community centres, pupils from St Eugene's PS, Nazareth House PS, Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir and Long Tower PS got the chance to experiment with new ideas and explore creative tools and technologies many had never experienced before.

Children explored DJing and music production, learned about rhythm and live performance, built their own instruments, took part in collaborative music sessions and discovered how creativity and technology can bring people together.

The programme also introduced young people to animation and filmmaking using iPads, stop-motion, time-lapse and visual effects apps, with groups creating their own animated films and superhero videos. Interactive visual displays encouraged movement, curiosity and self-expression, while workshops throughout the programme helped build confidence, teamwork and new connections.

Led by experienced facilitators and artists, the Creative Days gave young people the opportunity to develop new skills, explore cutting-edge technology and see how music, creativity and DIY culture can open up exciting future opportunities.
