Triathlon is serious for all competitors, but it should always be enjoyable. 👇✨

Aileen reminds us that some of her best racing memories are about the people she shared them with. Aileen’s key tip is to train hard, but don’t take yourself too seriously.

One of the biggest mistakes Aileen sees among age‑group athletes is untested kit.👇

That shiny new aero helmet or wetsuit may look fast, but if you haven’t trained in it, it could end your race early. She’s seen wetsuits fill with water because someone wore it for the first time on race day.

❗The fix is simple: train in the equipment you plan to race in for weeks beforehand. Race day should feel familiar; your gear should be trusted.

Our Aileen gets behind City of Derry’s Europe Triathlon Cup — they’re even coming from Down Under.

The return of international triathlon to City of Derry is starting to make noise beyond the sport itself. 🔥💪

September 5th will bring elite racing, age-group athletes, and thousands of spectators back into the heart of the city.

This is only the beginning. 🏃🚴🏊

Off the bike, it looked like the race had settled into place. There was a clear order, a sense that the podium was already decided.

But the run had other plans. 🏃‍♀️

A minute disappeared between first and second. The gap behind tightened quickly. And by the time they reached the line, third place came down to a sprint, separated by a single second.

It’s the kind of race where nothing stays fixed for long.

Besides Cork last year, it's been many years since athletes had the chance to race at this level on Irish soil.

So to have international racing back, and to be able to do it at home in Derry, really matters.

Racing in front of family, lining up against strong international fields, and picking up world ranking points… all in one weekend.

That’s what makes the Europe Triathlon Cup — City of Derry 2026 a big one.

People tend to hear “River Foyle” and immediately assume it’s going to be cold, tough, maybe even a bit intimidating, but once you actually get into Derry and see how the race is set up, it feels quite different to that.

The course runs right through the city, everything is close together, and the atmosphere takes over quickly.

As James Edgar says, once you’re in the water, it settles, and from there it’s about racing.

That’s what stands out with the City of Derry Triathlon, it’s well put together, easy to navigate, and built for performance from the start.
