Hello Everyone,

Well here's a thing. The legendary Scottish folk band Tannahill Weavers will be with us, in person, tonight.

So, following the incredible showing by our entry in Eurovision, a modicum of common sense is required.

Tannahill Weavers have plied their trade since Noah had a tea chest base, providing lively entertainment without the need for comical gadgetry or gimmicks. Pure folk laced with a bit of other stuff to remind you just how good they are.

So, we'll be waiting from 7pm when the bar opens for you to arrive. Due to the cold snap the heating will be back on, but we think the band will provide all the heat you need. There's room for dancing and we don't frown upon those who do.

Remember, Ruskin House are happy for you to bring a carry out from the local outlets to enjoy in the bar or garden. Remember, also, that drinks are at cut throat prices for folk club attendees, and curfew is midnight so make it an evening to remember.

Parking is free in Heathfield Road and Temple Road after 5pm, but always read the time plate wherever you park.

We're closed next week for the Bank Holiday so you have time to recover!

We're off for a quick rub down with back copies of "The Scotsman" jus to get the mood right!

See you later, keeping it live.

Best regards

Brian Jenny and all the Croydon Team

Hello Everyone,

Here we all are then, here we all are.

We are anyway, having had stressful few days at the cathedral of St Selhurst.

And now, we have to turn our minds to tonight at Croydon Folk Club and beyond.

Tonight we have the ever popular Jez Lowe, singer songwriter, novelist and all round good egg.
Jez has been a friend of the club since sometime in the last century and never ceases to entertain with his stuff both new and old and will, no doubt, lead us on an adventure in the Jez universe.

Tonight we also have an extended floor spot by "From The Workshop" an emerging local duo, who used our ladder approach, by turning up at a singers and musicians night. They impressed us so we invited them to progress through our system and do an extended spot to promote their full gig, which is on 5th October.

Other spots will be a bit scarce so get your bid in soon and make yourself known at the door.

Due to tour commitments our next guest is next week, hardly time to catch our breath, and they are Tannahill Weavers. Like Jez they have covered the known folk universe over the years.

A band who have been on the Folk Circuit since the late 60's it's a pleasure to host them at The Black Swan Folk Club. Born of a session in Paisley, Scotland, and named for the town's historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill, the Tannahill Weavers have made an international...

Hello Everyone,

Just a reminder that the May Day Bank Holiday is the one when we open for business. We do this in recognition of the position May Day holds for folkies.

So, come along today and extol the virtues of summertime and everything else you might think of, it's a time for having a good time, while we can afford it.

Next week we have Jez Lowe and a great night in prospect, but tonight it's up to us, and we usually make a good fist of it, so come and enjoy.

See you later, drinks at 7pm singing at 8pm.

Hello Everyone,

Tonight at Croydon we greet long time Ruskin favourites Four Gone Confusion.

The band has played on a Monday night a couple of times, but regularly appear for The Folk and Blues Club on a Sunday.

But tonight is their night, instead of a brief hot spot, they will have the opportunity to expand the coverage of their repertoire and demonstrate their prowess in a more meaningful way.

Here's the brief from our website:-

Four Gone Confusion is a four-piece band based in East Sussex, who play and sing a range of very eclectic material from traditional folk
from songs to classical guitar duets and more contemporary music. They play a variety of instruments in various combinations:-
Psaltery; Flute; Kalimba; Bouzouki; as well as Guitars; They sing both accompanied and a capella in various harmonies
combinations. They have played at a series of local venues and are friends of Ruskin House, so we are
very pleased to see them at Croydon Folk Club

After the Bank Holiday we have Jez Lowe on the 11th and double headed with Tannahill Weavers on the 18th. Obviously, more about them later. Remember tickets available through wegottickets.com
