Each year powerboats of all sizes, of all classes from around the World gather at Coniston Water for the annual Coniston Power Boat Records Week. Drivers from 8 years old take turns on the water to attempt to break the British and World water speed record in their class. The annual Coniston Power Boat Records Week is the only event in the Powerboat Racing Calendar to bring together all classes of

powerboat. Entry to this prestigious event is open to all from tiny hydroplanes, through circuit racers to the largest offshore boats. Records Week marks the finale to the British racing season with competitors and officials from all over the country assembling for what has been a popular event since its inception in 1970.

In memory of Records Week past Chairman Robin Brown, the 'Spirit of Record Week Trophy' was crafted by Alan Fawcus (Timing South) in 2012. The candlestick is made from very old Solway Oak recovered from beneath the sand, along with a nickel plated copper billet in the shape of Bluebird K7.
This year, the 'Spirit of Record Week' trophy was awarded to someone who works tirelessly through out the year, not just as part of the Record Week committee as Secretary, but also as Secretary to the K7 Club and as one of the OOD's during the week.
At the 53rd Power Boat Record Week, the 'Spirit of Records Week Trophy' was awarded to Alastair Nayler by Robin Brown's son Adam.

This year the appreciation trophy was awarded to 2 members of the team who literally embedded themselves into Coniston Water to allow the two days of record attempts to take place.

Each year one person or team stands out for providing relentless support to all and is awarded the Person / Team of the Meeting Trophy.
This year was a tough year for the waterside teams responsible for course laying, timing setup and retrieval.
During the storms several attempts were made to access the course early in the week. On Wednesday, the decision was made to go and locate the timing marks in 4ft of water in order to be ready to run on Thursday. Without question the waterside team were on it.

As the last of the volunteers and officials get ready to leave Coniston for another year, we have a few final posts for the recognition awards presented on Friday night.

Records Week is possible because over 60 volunteers give their time freely entirely at their own expense.
Dolphin Trophies are awarded for exceptional work at Records Week.
This year, the 1st dolphin went to Graham Leech performed one of the most audacious boat recoveries seen at Record Week. As a committee member Graham supports Records Week behind the scenes throughout the year too.
The other dolphin was awarded to Coniston resident, Phil Johnston. Phil not only supports by providing administrative support via the The Coppermines & Lakes Cottages office, Phil also provides complementary accommodation each year for Osprey Powerboat Rescue team and Paramedics throughout Record Week. This year, assisting the record week team to battle through the storms and recover the course.
Long may they both continue in their support of the event and for their exceptional work at Records Week this year were awarded Dolphin Trophies.

The K7 trophy is awarded to the fastest speed during Records Week regardless of a record. This year Paul Hart achieved 109.39mph in the Formula 500 class which achieved a new British National record.

The youngest Record Breaker of the week was 34-year-old, John Bunyan, who, in his OCRDA F2 class boat has set a new British National Records at 62.12 mph.

Each year the The Bluebird Café by the lake select the recipients of the Concours D'elegance. The trophy is awarded to the team who has the best turned out boat and conduct during the week.
This year, the Bluebird Café team selected Graham Leech to receive the award.

The most meritorious performance of the week was achieved by Bob Wartinger.
The Norman Buckley trophy is awarded to the Highest Percentage increase in any class. Bob increased the Pleasure Navigation Endurance Group B P150 class record by 10.04% to a new World Record speed of 66.98mph.

After a shortened Records Week, presentation took place on Friday night in the Coniston institute to celebrate the successes of competitors and officials. The Record Week trophies can be seen throughout the year on display in the Ruskin Museum next to Bluebird K7.
The 1st trophy of the evening was to Paul Hart, who whilst being less than 1 mph shy of the class world record, set a new British National Record of 109.39mph in the Formula 500 Hydroplane class. This gave Paul Hart the highest percentage increase of a hydroplane class record, an increase of 4.02%.
The Keith Dunn trophy was awarded by Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club, Chairman of Racing, Adam Brown.

Thomas Mantripp collected the trophy on Paul's behalf.
