Bromyard

A very compact, but charming, ground floor twin room in the Coach House is close to the shower room.

Simple and practical, it has been named after our favourite local village.

A collection of humorous antique blackwork adorns the walls and 'pearly king' cushions make the beds sparkle.

Something at Barton Court that rarely gets a mention…

Our 11th century dovecote. Rare and well preserved.

We are - apparently - on the wrong side of an area rich with these. Does anyone else have one near them?

Tucked away within the Barton Court estate, the Clock Tower is a beautifully restored 18th-century cottage designed for one or two.

Secluded, characterful and quietly romantic, it offers a sense of being entirely away from the world — while still deeply connected to its surroundings.

With far-reaching views, a log burner for slower evenings and a garden just beyond the door, this is a place for unhurried mornings and time well spent together.

Whether you’re marking a special occasion or simply escaping everyday life, the Clock Tower is a stay that feels intimate, memorable and entirely your own.

Inside The Clock Tower

The Clock Tower unfolds over two levels, with spaces designed for comfort, privacy and unhurried time together.

Downstairs, a characterful sitting room centres around a log burner, creating a cosy place to return to after long walks or quiet days exploring the area.

The kitchen has everything you need to whip up relaxed meals at home, while doors open onto a private patio and a decking area with seating and access to the Walled Garden beyond.

This rather battered old tureen is where my idea started.

My mother-in-law used to give me scented bulbs for Christmas, planted in old china. One year she planted them in this damaged antique soup tureen.

I loved it — repairs and all — and I've kept it ever since. I thas given me this idea.

This November I'm thinking of opening the house at Barton Court for a small Planting the House for Christmas morning.

We'd plant Paperwhite narcissi in lovely containers to take home and flower in December. If you have an old bowl or tureen of your own that you'd particularly like to use, you could bring that instead.

There would be coffee and cake when you arrive, and afterwards we'd have homemade soup with good bread and butter for lunch. And, of course, mince pies. And conversation.

It would be a small group — probably about 16 people — in the house at Barton Court so you could have a look around there as well.

Would anyone fancy coming?.

Upstairs in The Clock Tower

Upstairs, the bedroom offers a peaceful retreat with views across the countryside, complemented by an upstairs loo and basin. Relax in an antique French sleigh bed.

A modern ground-floor shower room completes the layout, making the cottage both charming and easy to live in

Above the old estate buildings and up some steep stone stairs, The Hayloft is a characterful retreat with its own rhythm and sense of privacy.

Warm, welcoming and informal, it’s a place to slow down and unwind.

The Hayloft suits guests who value relaxed studio-style living combined with fabulous views across the gardens and countryside.

It works well for couples or singletons who appreciate having space to retreat at the end of the day.

COME FOR THE MUSIC. STAY FOR THE WEEKEND

November looks good at Barton Court.

And the weekend of 13–15 November is looking particularly good for music.

On Saturday there’s a choice between Derek Paravicini and Friends at Great Malvern Priory and English Touring Opera at Malvern Theatres.

Then on Sunday, pianist Leon McCawley performs Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Fauré and Chopin at the theatre.

Add in lunch somewhere special, a walk on the Malvern Hills and a few friends, and you have the makings of a really satisfying November weekend.

The Coach House at Barton Court sleeps six in three bedrooms, with its own sitting room and kitchen.

Three nights on selected November dates from £490.

Come for the music. Stay for the weekend.

The garden of the main house is arranged in a series of rooms, each with a different feel and used for a different purpose.

In front of the house, there is a formal lawn, edged with sweet smelling roses and bordered by topiarised yew hedges.
