As such they suit gatherings not designed to be so formal that they overwhelm.

You can imagine a long table down the centre or groups of people clustered in conversation.

Overall cosy and welcoming in atmosphere.

More than half the year has gone, which means some people are already thinking about Christmas.

We are taking bookings for company dinners in the Saw Mill and the Dutch Barn, through to 19 December. Food cooked by an award-winning local chef, a licence until midnight, and the whole place to yourselves.

We are taking bookings for Christmas parties in the barns, up until to 19 December.

Company dinners, or a group of friends who have decided this year they will do it properly. Both work, and both get the whole place to themselves.

People ask how a party actually works across our two barns.

The flow we suggest is this: arrivals and drinks in the Saw Mill, dinner in the Dutch Barn, then back into the Saw Mill afterwards for drinks and more conversation while the other room is turned round for dancing.

Not a glamorous checklist, but these things matter in December when you are planning a party

1. Is it warm? Our barns have underfloor heating throughout, so coats can come off.

2. Can we park? Yes, we have around fifty parking spaces, on site, free and a couple of EV chargers as well

3. Can we stay late? We have a licence until midnight.

Last year we saw a different trend for Christmas parties. Not just food and drink - although there was plenty of that - but events that included activities.

We have had casinos, ceilidhs, terrarium making workshops, wreath making and hilarious Hell's Kitchen competitions.

Dolly Parton's death has really moved me. Not a big fan of country music, I just loved the woman for the beaming smile she always wore and for her positive attitude to life.

Reading the obits etc, I came across this. Well done our guards for playing this tribute and for learning it so well and so quickly. I cannot imagine it is in their normal repertoire.

The Royal Family's Instagram account posted the video, with a message "remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many".
