Clare Christmas Fair

Clare Christmas Fair The Christmas Fair is organised on behalf of St Peter and St Paul's Church and the people of Clare. Thank you! Christina Glover.

A Brief History of the Fair

In January 2016, I was asked by the parish church of St Peter and St Paul if the Clare Community Association would take over the organisation of the Christmas Fair. As a member of the CCA at the time and as an experienced fair organiser I was pleased to take this on, and worked with Margaret Godwin on the 2016 event, which was a great success. I left the CCA in 2017 an

d continued to run the fair myself with help from Bill Perceval-Maxwell, the then churchwarden, and with further help during the set-up and on the day from Mary Denton, Paul Bishop, the CCA and others, this year including Clare in Bloom. I have continued to organise the fair, introducing various attractions to enhance the event, and am delighted to say that it has gone from strength to strength and is now a major event in this part of the world, bringing both exhibitors and visitors into Clare from the surrounding area. Combined now with the Christmas Lights Switch-On, with which I am also involved, the Clare Christmas Festival weekend is becoming a great celebration of the holiday season. Volunteers are always needed and much appreciated, so if you'd like to help in any way, please get in touch via the Contact page. (If you'd like some information about why the Town Council took over the Clare Christmas Lights, please get in touch.)

OK, so the weather is not looking promising - but if you come along to the Clare Christmas Fair this Friday and Saturday, you can be assured of a warm welcome and a complimentary cup of mulled wine to kickstart your festive spirit while you take a look at all the great things on offer from our lovely stall holders in the Church and Town Hall. There's entertainment too - and, on Saturday, the Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place on Market Hill from 3.30pm with food, street entertainment, and music from The Spark until 7pm. So bring a smile and a brolly just in case!

Some images from the Christmas Fair....more to follow.😍 Thanks to everyone who came along - both visitors and exhibitors - I hope you all enjoyed yourselves! The mulled wine went down very, very well and I've received lots of positive feedback so that makes all the hard work worthwhile. Thanks to all our volunteers and those from the Church too.πŸ˜ŠπŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸŽ…πŸŽ…

CLARE CHRISTMAS FAIR and LIGHTS SWITCH-ON 2024 – FRIDAY 29th AND SATURDAY 30th NOVEMBER
The Christmas Fair has become a successful and much-loved local event over the last few years, growing in size and reputation and bringing in visitors from far and wide.
With around 70 exhibitors in the Parish Church and the Town Hall, you will find a wealth of ideas for your Christmas shopping. These range from decorative ceramics, glass, artworks, floristry and children’s books and games to festive fare and drinks, natural soaps, jewellery and accessories, plus many lovely crafted items from our talented and creative stall holders. There will be some fabulous hand-sewn characterful dolls and bears, traditional wooden toys and lots of Christmas decorations as well.
As well as the traditional mulled wine and mince pies on offer on both days to help raise funds for the Church, we have two cafes on site, one in each venue, where you can warm up with some delicious hot food or relax with coffee and cake before continuing with your browsing and gift shopping.
There will also be various entertainments on both days, including Father Christmas and Face Painting on Saturday, and from c4pm, there will be dancing by the Beau Dance team, live music from Serena Grant, a stunt bike display, a roundabout, Hells Bells Morris and the Children’s Parade, culminating in the Christmas Lights Switch-On on Market Hill at 6pm.
The Fair will be open on Friday 29th November from 5 – 8pm and on Saturday 30th from 10am – 7pm. More information and details will be available on the website - www.clarechristmasfair.co.uk – and will be posted on Facebook and Instagram nearer the time.
So do put the dates in your diary now so you and your family don’t miss out and we look forward to seeing you!
