Starting from Chipping Sodbury Rugby Club, only a stones throw from the beautiful market town high street, a lovely place to visit and shop. The event HQ boasts ample free parking, tea and coffee at the start finish, free Hot food at the finish included in entry, changing rooms and hot showers. A choice of 3 distances (100 miles, 60 miles or 30 miles) will take riders along well signed and marshalled routes. After rider feedback we've kept the 100-mile route the same as 2014, splitting from the 60-mile route at around 13.5 miles before re-joining at the summit of the infamous Frocester Hill at around 60 miles. All the routes have a good mixture of testing climbs, flowing descents and long flat sections. This combined with a great atmosphere will provide an enjoyable ride whatever your ability. The event provides chip timing, mechanical assistance and plenty of moral support from the army of volunteers that help. Feed Stations along the route promise to refresh riders with a generous selection of quality food. Combining the essentials with some homemade treats for those with a little more time to spare. Returning to Chipping Sodbury there will be free hot food, massages from the experts at the Toll House Clinic and time to relax. Organised by the members and friends of the Rotary Club of Chipping Sodbury, the aim is to provide a Sportive experience that is equal to the best Sportives in the UK, while all profits from the event will be given to charity. A huge thanks to all the riders and helpers which help raise lots of money for charity, 2016 raised just under £25k. Please support the Saddleback Sodbury Sportive in 2018, we’ll provide you with the best event possible and you’ll help us raise even more money for charity.

Sodbury Sportive 2022 - Event Cancelled

Entries for this year’s Saddleback Sodbury Sportive have been stubbornly slow coming in and have fallen well below pre-pandemic levels. Given all the financial pressures in society at present and the currently high residual levels of Covid, we don’t expect these numbers will improve, and so the Trustees of All-Chipping-In have decided that the 2022 Sportive is not financially viable in the current circumstances. We do not want to put on an event which falls short of all our expectations so, with deep regret, we have decided to call off the event now rather than incur further costs without the expectation of providing an acceptable return to all our charitable causes.

This has been a very hard decision to make but we hope everybody will understand why it was made.

Refunds will be available to all those that have already entered, information to follow shortly

With our best wishes,

The Trustees of All-Chipping-In.

The birth of the Maglia Rosa

A true icon of professional cycling, the Maglia Rosa was introduced in 1931 by Armando Cougnet, sports journalist at La Gazzetta dello Sport, the newspaper that had organised the first Giro d’Italia over two decades before.

He came up with the idea of having a symbol that would make the leader of the race stand out, so that he could be easily identified from the rest of the riders. The custom of awarding a special jersey to the leader of the overall classification is still kept alive in the world’s major cycling stage race. The honour of being the first rider to wear it fell to Learco Guerra, back in 1931. Hailing from Mantua, he gained the nickname ‘The human locomotive’ for his powerful riding, and conquered the RR World Championship in Copenhagen that same year, as well as the Corsa Rosa in 1934.
