Wow - Downtown Chester, NJ in the 50's. How cool is that.
This is Main Street in Chester back in the 1950s, and that long building with the double porch is still standing today. It's the Centennial Building on Main Street, and since 1965 its west end has been home to Taylor's Ice Cream Parlor.
That's the year Gil Taylor opened a store there to sell milk from his Long Valley dairy farm. Within weeks he was advertising Taylor's Ice Cream for 99 cents a half gallon. It's the same porches and the same braces today, just with a lot fewer tailfins parked out front.
Did you grow up getting a cone at Taylor's, and what was your flavor?
