JUNE at Steamin’: bassist and previous BBC Young Jazz Musician finalist James Owston with his bebop-inspired quartet 🎷

With a technical fluidity on his instrument, James Owston stretches stylistic boundaries and pushes the instrument to its limit, with a sound that is stylish, virtuosic and captivating.
With firm roots in bebop and the jazz tradition, James is heavily influenced by Ray Brown, Charles Mingus, Oscar Pettiford, Charlie Haden, and modern masters including Larry Grenadier and Robert Landfermann.
James was a 2018 BBC Young Jazz Musician finalist, performing at the Queen-Elizabeth Hall with Gwilym Simcock and Asaf Sirkis. James has collaborated with Paul Dunmall, Jay Phelps, Alex Clarke, Mark Lockett, Neil Yates, John Turville, Roger Manins, Emily Masser, Xhosa Cole and many more.
