To celebrate, we’re sharing this beautiful wet-on-wet watercolour of daffodils by Danae Hunter, artist and former Kindergarten Assistant at our School. Capturing the freshness and promise of early spring, it's a lovely tribute to Wales and our national flower.

We loved being part of this beautiful morning. It was so special to see little ones exploring, listening, and playing alongside their families. 🌿

🌿 What a joy to welcome so many new families into the warmth of our Kindergarten on Saturday. From the scent of fresh bread to the magic of the story and the wonder of play, it was wonderful to see everyone fully engaged in the rhythm of the morning.

We feel so lucky to have shared many mornings with Danae in our Parent & Toddler Groups. Her love of colour, nature and creativity always inspired little ones and grown-ups alike. 🌿 It’s wonderful to see her talent bringing the soft stirrings of February to life in this beautiful p***y willow painting 💙✨

The beautiful colours and shapes of wet-on-wet painting are a distinctive feature of Steiner education and always catch the eye of visitors to the School. It’s simple – wet watercolour paint is laid on wet paper, allowing the colours to flow and blend into each other in beautiful, unexpected ways.

We see every week how much children flourish through real play, imagination and connection. Protecting early childhood before screens feels deeply right. Come and experience it for yourself - Open Morning in Kindergarten is always so nurturing to attend 💚

Grounded before Wired. 🌱💻

There’s a time and place for technology, but in the formative years, nothing beats the "high definition" of the great outdoors. We want our children to be grounded in the real world before they are wired into a virtual one.

🌿 You can’t download the feeling of moss or the weight of a perfect climbing stick

In education, we often hear about "digital literacy" and "future-proofing" our children. But at Cardiff Steiner School we believe the most important "future-proofing" doesn't happen behind a screen, it happens through living connection with the world around us.

🍃 The Power of Being Grounded - When children play in nature they are immersed in the deepest kind of learning. They are master engineers, artists and scientists - measuring the strength of a branch, calculating the friction of a muddy slope, and exercising their fine motor skills to weave a crown of twigs. They are becoming the masters of their own imagination, rather than passive consumers of someone else's. This is "grounded" learning -tactile, unpredictable, and deeply human.

🌱 Our Philosophy - We aren't anti-technology; we’re pro-development. That’s why you won’t find iPads in Kindergarten, or screens before secondary. By prioritising holistic, play-based learning in the early years, we ensure that when children eventually do plug in, they do so with a strong sense of self, a resilient body, and an imagination that doesn't need a battery to run.

This speaks so beautifully to what we experience in Toddler Group. Parents carry the seasonal handwork, creating a calm, purposeful atmosphere that the little ones absorb, with some of the older ones naturally joining in when the moment feels right. Such a gentle, living foundation for early learning. 🌿
