Well, Cambridgeshire… what a first day 💛

Yesterday we opened the gates to our very first Big Retreat at Abbots Ripton — and what a way to begin.

From the first classes and conversations to dancing, creating, moving, laughing and simply taking some time out, it was wonderful to see the festival finally come to life.

These are just a few moments from the first half of Day 1… and there was plenty more to come.

A classically trained singer who has performed around the world, Chloëbeth has one of those voices that makes a whole crowd stop and listen.

Friday at 5pm , she’ll take to our Woodland Stage for a beautiful classical and operatic set — and we think this is going to be a really special moment of the weekend.

We’re delighted to welcome nutritionist, author and women’s health expert Karen Newby to The Big Retreat Cambridgeshire.

With more than 15 years of clinical experience, Karen specialises in helping women navigate menopause and post-menopause—turning complex nutritional science into practical changes that can support energy, health and vitality as we age.

Karen is the author of The Natural Menopause Method, The Natural Menopause Method Cookbook and the forthcoming The Post Menopause Method. Inspired by years spent living in China and Vietnam, her work also explores what we can learn from cultures where real food and nourishment remain firmly at the heart of everyday life.

Karen’s message is refreshingly positive: ageing isn’t something to fear. With the right nourishment and support, our post-menopausal years can be vibrant, purposeful and enormously fulfilling.

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD? 💛

A proper belly laugh.

Dancing like nobody’s watching.
Singing at the top of your voice.
Sharing good food.
Trying something you’ve never done before.
Getting outside.
A really good hug.

Meeting someone new.

Or simply sitting with your favourite people and doing… not very much at all.

There’s actually science behind why these moments feel so good.

Connection, movement, laughter, music, nature, kindness and shared experiences can all play a part in our wellbeing — helping us feel calmer, happier and more connected.

MEET AUGUST BETH 🌱

We’re delighted to welcome August Beth to The Big Retreat Cambridgeshire!

August is Head Tutor at The Raymond Blanc Gardening School at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire. She shares the beautiful Le Manoir kitchen garden—and her own growing adventures—with more than 140,000 followers through August Beth

After 18 years as an air hostess, August followed her growing passion for gardening and applied for a role in Le Manoir’s kitchen garden. Despite having no formal experience at the time, she arrived at her interview with a basket of home-grown organic vegetables and runner bean chutney—and got the job! She went on to gain her horticultural qualifications and become Head Tutor at the Gardening School.

August is also the founder of Seed Explorers, helping children and families discover the joy of growing food and understanding where it comes from.

You’ll find August sharing her story and knowledge in Darwin’s Den, as well as joining Kwoklyn Wan for a special session in the Chef’s Kitchen.
