Why Join a Society?...
Societies are the perfect way to try something new and explore your hobbies and interests during your time at ARU. Our students currently run over 120 different societies and by joining, you’ll make friends, socialise and have fun.
Interest based societies give you the opportunity to enjoy the things you love and broaden your skills at the same time. There’s something for everyone, whatever you can imagine. Can’t find one you like? You can start your own.
Course based societies will help you get ahead with your course and give you extra opportunities to explore your subject. Your course society will connect you to a network of support and help you on your journey to success.

First Steps
Check the group you wish to start doesn't already exist here.
Check if other students have suggested your idea for a society previously here. This can help you to find more committee members.
Gather at least two Committee Members - you must have a President and a Treasurer but we would also recommend having an Administrator. These are the basic roles that every society needs to function but if you wish to add more go ahead and create your own roles. Only current ARU students can be committee members.
Create a clear aim for your society. Where do you see it going? What is its purpose? What are your objectives?
Remember Clubs and Societies must abide by the Union’s current Equal Opportunities Policy and are subject to the provisions of the Constitution, Regulations and Policy of ARU Students’ Union.
