Here’s the pilot to Untold Trails, a storytelling podcast exploring the people, races, brands, and moments that shape trail running.

Before we dive into our first feature on the iconic Three Peaks Race, we start with a simple question: how did we end up here?

In this pilot episode, Scott and Fraser share their own journeys into trail running — from unexpected beginnings in Chamonix during Brexit weekend, to chaotic ultra experiences in the mountains of Indonesia. Along the way, they reflect on what makes this sport different, and why it all comes back to one thing: Stories.

You can listen to the trailer in the final slide of this post.

In this month’s digest, we’re giving you the inside track on what’s coming and why we’re so excited to share it with you. In Episode One of UNTOLD TRAILS we’ll be asking: The Three Peaks: Is this Britain’s most iconic race?

But that’s not all this digest. We also feature:
- The Great British Trail Transition
- Community Racing
- English Fell Champs, where Scott’s got a point to prove
- Our pick of some standout Spring 2026 performances

We’re excited to share the trailer for our new podcast.

UNTOLD TRAILS is a storytelling podcast exploring the deeper, lesser-heard stories from trail running.

Beyond race results and finish lines, this is a journey into the human side of the sport: the defining moments, personal battles, and powerful experiences that shape the trail running community.

From untold histories to present-day challenges and future conversations, each episode dives into the issues that matter most in trail running, all through honest, emotional, and story-led conversations.

Our first episode on the Three Peaks Race will be out at the end of next week. In the meantime watch out for our pilot dropping on Monday 6th April.

Trail running is becoming big business.

And that will change the sport.

Trail running isn’t suddenly different.

But the signals are getting stronger.

In Chamonix last summer, there wasn’t one dramatic shift —
there was simply more of everything.

More brand presence.

More executive teams on the ground.

More structured activations.

More long-term thinking.

Prize purses at UTMB aren’t enormous — but they are rising across the sport, particularly in North America.

And then came the clearest signal yet:

Nike openly positioning trail as its strategic entry point into outdoor.

When companies of that scale move with intent, it tells you something about direction.

Trail has always been built on authenticity and community.

So the question isn’t whether investment is coming.

It’s this:

As capital and attention increase, does the sport strengthen —

or does it evolve into something different?

We explore that shift in our latest Digest.

Trail running is no longer the fringe — it’s where the outdoor industry is placing its biggest bets. From UTMB’s evolution into an industry summit to major brand investment reshaping the landscape, we explore why trail has become the sector’s new frontline — and what that means for the sport’s future.

Also in this edition of Trailfans Digest we go back on the fells for the first English Champs race of the season and round-up our masters series. Check it out in our link to Substack.

Many trail runners feel the sport changing.
Bigger races. Bigger money. Bigger hype.

Angela Mudge comes from the era before all of that —
and she’s still running, still racing, still reminding us what matters.

A cornerstone story for our Masters Series.

What’s coming up at TrailFans

2026 is shaping up to be a big one — for the platform and for us personally.

Scott is targeting the English Fell Champs, taking on the best in the V50s, plus ticking off a long-held goal with his first skyrace in Spain at Calamorro SkyRace (and yes, he’s on a 125-day Duolingo Spanish streak to prove it).

Frazer hits the big 5-0 and will be marking it with a still-under-wraps challenge involving some of the UK’s biggest peaks and fast-moving logistics. Race highlight: OCC by UTMB, alongside classic Lancashire & Yorkshire fell races… and maybe (again) a 5k/10k PB attempt.

We’ll also be exploring what training, recovery and mindset really look like as we move deeper into the veteran years — and sharing what we learn along the way.

Dropping next week…

Two brilliant interviews with Angela Mudge and Karl Gray — stories, lessons and perspective from two of the most respected names in fell and mountain running.
Plus: a Snow Race, a ski resort, and a very different kind of race experience from Les Deux Alpes.

More soon.

Have a read on our new Monthly Digest over on Substack, that’s linked in our bio.
