Welcome to Bude at War-The Day the Americans Came. After the huge success of Bude at War 2017, this will be the second time we will have run this 1940s re-enactment weekend, paying tribute to the troops who trained in Bude for D-Day and the Pointe du Hoc Assault. The North Cornwall coast will provide a unique and historically accurate backdrop to the event, offering interesting and alternative 'edutainment'. A complete volunteer event, we aim to recreate a wonderful heritage weekend, with military vehicles, British and American Camps, Living History groups; D-Day beach assault and cliff climb, re-enactors, memorial service, GI Dance, singers and entertainers, speeches, code breaking, stalls, vintage body boarding and anything else we can think of! We are primarily working with First Wave 44, a very dedicated living history re-enactment group depicting the American Army 146th Engineers who cleared the way for troops to follow. Bude itself was host to the American Rangers and had a huge social impact on the local residents. Much of the history and heritage is based on memories of local people. We invite and encourage all 1940s and WWII enthusiasts to take part. We welcome anyone who can help make this happen. If you are interested in attending or would like to be part of this, please contact Clair on 07866 677139 or email [email protected] We totally understand the huge amount of work ahead of us to make this unique event happen. We can only do this by working with local groups, community organisations and experts in their field. If you would like to get involved, please do contact us. We look forward to working with you and delivering a first class addition to the 1940s event calendar. Thank you.
