Congratulations to our Best Feature Film 2026 - ’Out Standing’ Directed by Mélanie Charbonneau!

At the height of a brilliant career with the Armed Forces, Officer Sandra Perron resigns unexpectedly. The brass launch an investigation that revs up when a photo circulates of Sandra in uniform tied to a tree apparently unconscious. This was not how the career of the first female officer in the Canadian infantry was supposed to end. Besieged by journalists, struggling to adapt to civilian life, and pursued by the investigation, she enies that she was the victim of abusive treatment and refuses to press charges. As Sandra reveals the details of her incredible experience in the Canadian infantry, her training, tours overseas, it becomes clear this true story is about how her worst enemies were on her side of the front line.

Director Biography - Mélanie Charbonneau

Promising Quebec director Mélanie Charbonneau has made her mark, thanks to numerous large-scale projects. She has been making movies, web series and advertising, all of her achievements have in common an approach filled with humour and humanity. Her first short film, SEULE has been noticed in several international festivals including Cannes, Namur, Fantasia, Cambridge, Off-Courts Trouville and Cinema on the Bayou festival. Her film LUNAR ORBIT RENDEZVOUS takes the form of a romantic sci-fi comedy. It was screened in official competition at the Locarno Festival in 2018, then presented in around forty other international festivals, where it won numerous awards in 2019, it was a finalist for the Iris for the best short film at the Gala Quebec Cinema.

Here is the official trailer for Best Short Documentary winner Burning Heart, directed by Jose Otero & Louis Ellison. 🎬

Burning Heart captures the emotion and energy of a yearly tradition in the small English town of Ottery Saint Mary where, on the 5th of November for reasons unknown, the residents of the town carry burning barrels of tar through the streets. Our aim was to create a visceral visual spectacle that seeks to take the viewer into the heart of the action.

The architect of a virtual world called Presence is interviewed about its profound capabilities – it can trigger lucidity in Alzheimer’s patients. Meanwhile, inside Presence, a daughter tries to reconnect with her mother, an Alzheimer’s sufferer, and bring her back to the physical world.

The Phenomenon of Presence (TPOP) is a cerebral sci-fi thriller looking into our near future and exploring the possibilities of how technology may soon change our lives forever.

TPOP explores the ongoing relationship between technology, psychology and neurological conditions such as dementia.

In the near future, a virtual world called “Presence” has the unexpected side effect of easing the symptoms of certain forms of dementia. Across the globe millions of sufferers escape into this world, leaving their loved ones behind.

The film asks the question: “If you lost your loved one to a virtual world you knew would help their condition, would you let them go forever?”
