Welcome! Let’s dive in…

Vocal improvisation opens a world of possibility for musical and interpersonal exploration in a myriad of directions. This gathering will offer a unique opportunity to experience some of its many flavours , such as collaborative vocal improvisation (CVI), circlesinging, body music, embodied movement, live looping, nature connection and play.

Our gathering is proudly and intentionally both a festival and a retreat. It embraces the excitement of coming together in person and sharing creative vocal expression, while also honouring the more inward, nurturing, perhaps sacred connection invited by this practice.

🌿 Gathering Song RETREAT + FESTIVAL 🌿

Beautiful singers… it’s happening! After a couple of years of behind-the-scenes development, Gathering Song is returning with a renewed residential retreat, closer than ever to the natural world, plus a brand new public festival at the beautiful Braziers Park in Oxfordshire.

Our retreat is for the vocal improvisation community to gather, celebrate, play, and sing together. Then we’ll open the doors to share the magic with family, friends, the local community, and the wider public for a one-day festival on Saturday 12 June, before gathering for a closing ceremony on Sunday 13 June.

Performances, participatory singing, installations, nature connection, and a few surprises are all in store.

There’s still lots to plan, but for now, mark your calendars! We’ll be sharing more details in the autumn.

We Did it! The Gathering Song Crowdfunder is complete!

117 supporters!

£6130 raised!

So many generous rewards 🎁

The team are now getting stuck into all the juicy details of all things Gathering Song 2027 on residency at exploring our relationship between vocal improv and nature connection.

We are excited to be culminating this week in our Pre-Gathering Song free singing event this Sunday afternoon at near Oxford, our venue for the event next year. Yyyeeeessss!!

If you would still like to donate, the Crowdfunder will stay live, and any additional donations will go towards team admin costs going forward.

Dear AMAZING community! We’ve reached our original target and are now in our stretch goal, with the Crowdfunder 87% funded towards £5,700: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/ukvocalimprov

The extra support will help us make Gathering Song more visible, accessible, sustainable and beautifully held, including photography, CIC setup, ticketing, accessibility, outreach and behind-the-scenes team time.

We didn’t receive Arts Council funding, so every share, reward claim, donation, or extra £5 really helps us bring this vision into the world before the campaign closes on Sunday at 8pm 🙏🏼❤️

A trip down memory lane 🔥

Who remembers this moment from our 2023 festival at Penny Brohn UK in Bristol, when we lit a big fire, it rained like crazy, and we sang for hours?

We’re just over halfway through our crowdfunding mission, and almost halfway towards our goal of bringing Gathering Song - a brand new festival of vocal improvisation and nature connection - into the world.

Thank you SO much to everyone who has already supported us. It truly means a lot, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Presenting the venue for Gathering Song, our new outdoor festival of vocal improvisation happening in June 2027: Braziers Park 🌱

Braziers Park School of Integrative Social Research is a community, charity for alternative education, and an architectural treasure hidden deep in the South Oxfordshire countryside in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our aim is to build a long-term partnership with them and weave our work with their resident artists and ongoing programmes.
