Plogging Bristol

Plogging Bristol Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter (Swedish: plocka upp). The events are completely inclusive, so you can walk, jog or run.

We meet and then regroup about 45 minutes later so everyone can go at the pace they want.

Happy Winter Solstice everyone! We did a litter pick today to celebrate the solstice and give something back. It’s amazing what can be achieved in 50 minutes when we work together. Well done to the amazing team on this massive haul. As I always say, there simply shouldn’t be this much litter, but sometimes there is. So while we work on more sustainable solutions and try to reduce waste/plastic packaging at source, let’s all try to do our bit, even if it’s picking up just one piece.

Another litter pick last week for our wildlife, community and us. This time around Whitehouse Lane, BS3, not far from Victoria Park. As I always say, please don’t be in any doubt - just one piece of litter can be fatal for a creature. Then there’s the damage caused longer term by all the microplastics. Well done team on the hard work and dedication to making our local environment more beautiful and supporting nature to thrive. Whilst we all try to reduce waste/plastic packaging at source, let’s all try to do our bit, even if it’s picking up just one piece.

We know that sky lanterns cause so much damage - they can cause fires and kill our wildlife and other animals, and also damaging for water/marine life. The risk is from both the fact they burn, have a wire framework and are, essentially, single use litter. I was dismayed to come across one late last night in South Bristol; it had only just stopped burning and we could see at least one other in the sky. Link to the RSPCA (England & Wales) petition in the comments. They’re currently only banned in Wales.
