We're in the Shropshire Star again this week - well done to Christine for getting the bridge back in the spotlight - but how many times do we need to keep doing this until Shropshire Council takes action!

Unfortunately we've had to cancel the bridge clean up on the 14th due to a disappointing, unsupportive and frankly unbelievable letter from the Highways Operations Manager at Shropshire Council to Bridgnorth Town Council.

We're assuming their reaction means that the refurb of our beautiful bridge is high on their schedule and also slightly bemused by one of their arguments that appropriate traffic controls etc would be needed as the bridge is a live roadway and yet they supply the litter pickers with the green bin bags we use to collect litter from our road sides.

We thought we were doing a good and positive thing to improve the appearance of our town and create a welcoming impression for residents and visitors. It's a shame Shropshire Council don't care about our town - Shrewsbury's bridges are immaculate.

We've become a bit fed up of waiting for Shropshire Council to "do something" about the appalling state of the bridge and decided that the flowers the Town Council will be putting in the bridge planters at the beginning of June will look a lot more beautiful if we clean the algae off all the railings. We've experimented and it washes off just using water.

If you want to join us on the 14th, we'd love to see you!

A huge thank you to Bridgnorth Town Council for awarding us this year's Civic Award in recognition of our work around Bridgnorth! Our wonderful Mary, who can regularly be seen litter-picking around town, accepted the award on our behalf from outgoing Mayor, Cllr David Cooper. 🏆

Also a big thank you to our favourite photographer, Dave Cooper, for the lovely photo! ðŸ“ļ

Yesterday we met the amazing Team Tett, who were litter picking in Bridgnorth as part of their efforts to raise money for Amyloidosis UK.

They've raised over ÂĢ1200 so far by walking across the country and litter-picking as they go, raising awareness of amyloidosis - a rare but serious disease caused by abnormal proteins, which can affect organs such as the heart, kidneys, and nervous system.

John himself suffers from the condition, so we're incredibly grateful to him and his wife for stopping by to help tidy up our town as part of their campaign.

If you'd like to donate to their fundraiser as a small thank you for their work in our town, we've popped a link to their JustGiving page in the comments.

A big shout-out and a huge thank you to Chris from The Royle for helping to keep Bridgnorth clean!

We've spotted him jet-washing the pavement this morning, a job Shropshire Council should be doing, blasting away the weeds, chewing gum and muck!

It's great to see people going above and beyond, taking pride in the presentation of our town. Well done Chris!

Litter bins across Shropshire will soon be emptied more efficiently and more often, following a change of contractor

Vicky has been out sweeping Seven Sisters Steps again (or Seven Sixes Steps if you're counting), and what a difference she's made!

Our steps make our town unique, so we're so lucky to have Vicky and others keeping them tidy for us all!

We're aware that Shropshire Council has not yet collected the litter we picked on Sunday, so we've been chasing them to get this removed as soon as possible.

Shropshire Council issues these green bags to litter pickers across the county, allowing their teams to distinguish between fly-tipped and litter picked waste.

The system in place allows us to leave these bags in a visible place near to a bin, ready for Shropshire Council to collect the next morning when streets are cleaned.

However, after a number of calls to Shropshire Council, there seems to be internal confusion amongst their team as to how this system works.

We apologise for any inconvenience whilst we wait for Shropshire Council to collect the waste, and thank you for your patience! 💚
