📚✨ A Little Update! ✨📚

I’m delighted to share that I’ve taken on a part-time seasonal role as a Peak Bookseller at Waterstones this month.

It feels so good to be back in a customer-facing role — helping people find the perfect book, chatting about stories, and soaking up the buzz of the festive season. I’ve really missed being at the heart of retail!

I’m incredibly grateful to the Angus Tourism Cooperative Board, who have been so supportive and allowed me to reduce my usual hours for December so I can take on this opportunity. Their understanding and encouragement is really appreciated.

It’s been a bit of a challenging personal time and stepping into a warm, book-filled space with friendly colleagues (many with decades of bookselling wisdom!) has felt like exactly what I needed — a reset and a reminder of what I love 🫶

Additional joy:
🌆 being back working in the city
🌊 starting the morning with riverside walk before work
Small moments, but they’ve made a huge difference.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support my work and my wellbeing. Here’s to ending the year with purpose, positivity and a lot of books!💛 📚

📢We want to hear from you!📢

Every year we review the impact of our organisation and what we have achieved throughout the previous year - but the work doesn't end there!

Delivering what our community needs is important to us and we want your opinions, ideas and thoughts about our work, and how we can grow in the right way for everyone.

Whether you walk once a month on the reserve and have a cuppie in the tearoom, bring the kids to the farm and events, or you know someone in one of our education or volunteering programmes, your thoughts matter.

Please take a few moments to fill in a survey about Murton to help us deliver what is needed the most.⤵️

Mental Health Awareness Week

This week was all about raising awareness and starting conversations around mental health—and I wanted to share a bit about what helps me look after mine.

For me, good mental health is supported by simple but meaningful things

🍃Spending time outdoors in nature
🏃🏻‍♀️Staying active
🫶Volunteering and connecting with others
🥰meaningful people

I had the chance to get involved in a community sports day to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, volunteering with Murton Trust. They support such a wide range of people, including those who are on their own mental health journeys, and it was a privilege to be part of that.

I also volunteered with Brechin Netball to highlight the benefits of team sport and social connection—sometimes just being around others, moving, laughing, and supporting each other makes a big difference.

Saturday morning’s wouldn’t be the same now without Parkrun and this week a visit to in the blazing sunshine! Parkrun wouldn’t exist without its amazing volunteers, thank you! 👏🏻

To not mention great fresh food and lovely coffee wouldn’t complete my wellbeing story Sacred Grounds Coffee Company

Mental health is something we all have, and it’s important we take care of it—just like we would our physical health. Let’s keep making space for ourselves and each other

Back in one of my happy places this morning — Castleton Farm — for a truly special cherry orchard tour, co-hosted with the amazing Anna Mitchell!

It was such a joy to welcome visitors and share the story behind the farm — from its rich history to the incredible innovation happening on the farm. We were joined by cherry expert Adrian, who brought the orchards to life with his incredible knowledge, there’s nothing he doesn’t know about cherries!🍒

The farm’s commitment to regenerative agriculture really shines through — working with the land in a way that protects and nourishes it for the future.

We finished the tour with refreshments under the cherry blossom, a magical experience!

I’ll be back at Castleton this Friday and Saturday, leading more orchard tours.

🌸On Sunday 4th May the farm will host a special charity blossom and berries day in support of The Archie Foundation — a charity that’s very close to the Mitchell family’s heart. Young Isabella is undergoing 18 months of treatment for a brain tumour, she celebrates her 12th birthday on Sunday. There is a Just Giving page if you would like to support https://www.justgiving.com/page/castletonfarm?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL&utm_campaign=015

It’s also Scottish Agritourism Month in May! So if you’re looking for a meaningful day out in the countryside, now’s the perfect time!
