A hospital consultant, a Scottish orchestra organist and a man helping preserve the sound of some of the world's great theatre organs – tomorrow he's taking control of our 1927 Wurlitzer in Bowness.

There’s considerably more to Iain McGlinchey than simply being an organist.

Away from music, Iain is a hospital consultant in the west of Scotland. But he is also the organist of the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra and an established pipe and theatre organ performer.

And his fascination with these extraordinary instruments goes much further than playing them.

Iain is one of the three partners behind Paramount Organ Works, which creates sophisticated virtual theatre pipe organs using samples developed from notable real theatre organs in Britain and America.

The process captures the individual character of theatre organ pipes in remarkable detail, preserving sounds from instruments that most people would otherwise never have the opportunity to play.

Iain has also undertaken the specialist work of “voicing” a virtual Wurlitzer – shaping how the recreated instrument responds and sounds.

His recorded repertoire shows just how far removed a Wurlitzer concert can be from people's preconceptions of an organ recital, ranging from classics such as Over the Rainbow, Cavatina and Por Una Cabeza to a recording of London Calling.

He's also taken the Wurlitzer back to one of its original purposes – providing live accompaniment to silent cinema – including accompanying Charlie Chaplin's City Lights.

Tomorrow, he gets his hands on ours.

Our magnificent Wurlitzer was built in America in 1927 – the same year The Royalty itself opened – and after an extraordinary journey through nearly a century of cinema history, it now lives beneath and beside our stage in Bowness.

And there couldn't be a more appropriate date for this concert.

On 15 September 1934, this very Wurlitzer was officially opened at the Rex Cinema in Stratford, East London.

So when Iain sits at its console tomorrow, 15 September 2026, he'll be playing it exactly 92 years to the day after its British cinema debut.

Nearly a century of cinema and musical history, brought back to life for one lunchtime in Bowness.

An internationally award-winning reggae show which sold out at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and has played Off-Broadway is coming to Bowness-on-Windermere – followed by a reggae afterparty powered by a handcrafted British soundsystem with deep roots in UK reggae culture.

# # BOB MARLEY: HOW REGGAE CHANGED THE WORLD

Bob Marley: How Reggae Changed the World comes to The Royalty on Friday 18 September as part of its 2026 international tour.

Created and performed by Jamaican-Canadian singer-songwriter and playwright Duane Forrest, the acclaimed show combines live music and storytelling to explore Bob Marley’s life, the development of reggae in Jamaica and its extraordinary cultural and political impact around the world.

The show sold out at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and has since played Off-Broadway at New York’s Soho Playhouse. Its accolades include Jury’s Choice at Ottawa Fringe, Patron’s Pick at Toronto Fringe and Best Music Show at both Perth Fringe and Adelaide Fringe.

Rather than a conventional tribute act, Forrest – raised in Toronto by Jamaican parents – weaves his own story and heritage into stripped-back performances of Marley’s music and songs by other reggae greats.

# # LITTLE ROCKET HIFI AFTERPARTY

When the theatre show finishes, the auditorium becomes a reggae party powered by Cumbria’s Little Rocket HiFi, with Mister Monster, Little Rocket and Daddy One Love selecting roots reggae, dub, ska and more until late.

Little Rocket HiFi curated the Outlook Reggae Stage at Solfest, while Daddy One Love – aka Steve Jarvis – has been collecting records for more than 50 years and DJing since 1990. Growing up in East London in the 1970s, reggae and punk were early influences, followed by the mod revival, 2 Tone, ska and 60s soul.

Little Rocket’s Steve Razzetti has similarly deep roots in reggae. Keele University’s oral history project records his memories of organising packed reggae nights in the early 1980s, including bringing legendary Tottenham soundsystem Fatman Hi Fi to the university.

Seven years ago Jarvis bought a handmade, valve-powered Valvatron rig from friend and reggae enthusiast Paul Huxtable, aka Paul Axis/Dr Valv-a-tron. Razzetti later bought an almost identical rig – and the two will come together at The Royalty.

The Valvatron “Small Wonder” systems are handcrafted in Yorkshire. Their cabinets are made by Errol at Soundlite in Cleckheaton, who has spent more than 40 years building soundsystem speakers, including for Jah Shaka. The amplifiers are designed and built in Huddersfield by Paul Huxtable and Howard Lister, formerly lead design engineer at legendary amplifier maker Matamp – whose history includes building custom valve amplification for Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green.

The result is a night bringing together two sides of reggae culture: an internationally acclaimed show telling the story of Marley and reggae’s worldwide influence, followed by the music played through a proper handcrafted soundsystem.

The evening is hosted by Monster Monster, independent North West promoters who have been putting on live music and club events since 2003.

Over more than two decades they have brought an eclectic range of artists to the region, including skanking specialists Dub Pistols, Dreadzone, Mr Benn and The Skints, alongside numerous other live bands, DJs and touring acts.

TONIGHT! Black Ice bring the full-throttle AC/DC experience to the stage, blasting through classics from both the Bon Scott and Brian Johnson eras — from Highway to Hell and Back in Black to Thunderstruck and beyond.

Formed in the North East in 2009, Black Ice have built a formidable reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting AC/DC tribute acts. Recent highlights include headlining the Highway to Hell AC/DC Festival in Blackpool, performing the legendary Back in Black album in full, plus sell-out shows in Newcastle and Darlington and repeat appearances closing the second stage at CarFest North and South.

And this isn't just about the songs. Black Ice go all-in on the AC/DC experience, with a wall of Marshall speakers, Gibson SGs and Gretsch guitars, huge video projections, graphics and smoking cannons with sound effects.

The five-piece family-led band features brothers Gary “Angaz” Robertson as Angus Young and Mike Robertson on lead vocals, alongside Mike’s sons Ash and Elliott on bass and drums, with Iain Mclean on rhythm guitar.

SHE’S PERFORMED FOR ROYALTY, SPENT 30+ YEARS ENTERTAINING AUDIENCES AROUND THE WORLD — AND NOW CECE MONSOON IS COMING TO BOWNESS! 👑🎤

On Friday 2 October, international drag entertainer CeCe Monsoon brings her one-woman show BOLD AS BRASS to The Royalty.

And this is definitely not just lip-sync and sequins.

CeCe has been performing internationally for over three decades, taking her live-vocal and comedy shows across the UK, Europe and around the world — appearing in prestigious theatres, aboard cruise ships and even performing in front of royalty.

She is a genuine live singer, mixing powerhouse vocals with quick-witted comedy, outrageous personality and multiple quick-change costumes performed right in front of the audience.

CeCe’s alter ego Ed Wallace studied Contemporary Theatre Studies at the University of Central Lancashire, graduating with a First Class degree, before building a professional entertainment career spanning more than three decades.

CeCe is also one of the creative directors of the touring theatre production Drag Me To The 80s, now into its third consecutive UK touring year.

And audiences rate the voice as highly as the comedy. After a CeCe show at Grosvenor Casino Liverpool, one audience review said CeCe’s voice was worth the ticket price alone.

More recently, a Marella Voyager cruise passenger singled CeCe out as a “great voice and entertainer.”

All inside the wonderfully atmospheric Royalty Theatre in Bowness.

The evening will also be supporting Rainbow Hub, nominated by Cole Murray.
