What a day.

On Saturday 25 April we threw open the doors of Higham Village Hall to celebrate the completion of our extension and refurbishment, and the community turned out in force.

There are so many people to thank.

To Terry, for cutting the ribbon and officially marking the start of this new chapter for the hall. A real honour to have you do it.

To our MP Jonathan Hinder, who came along to support the day and meet the team behind the project. Thank you for taking the time.

To Sam, whose afternoon tea was nothing short of spectacular.

And to Burnley Film Makers Club, who have been capturing everything as the project had developed - we can't wait to see the finished film.

Most importantly to Graham and John who managed the whole process. You have been amazing.

Thank you also to everyone who came through the doors, shared a memory, took a tour, and helped us celebrate. This hall belongs to all of you.

Now we want to see it in action. If you've held a club, event, party or gathering at the hall, send us your photos. Tag or drop them in the comments. Let's show off just how much this space means to our community.

The doors are nearly ready to open and we would love you to walk through them! πŸŽ‰

We are throwing open the hall on Saturday 25 April from 2pm to celebrate the completion of our major refurbishment and we want the whole village to come along.

There will be an opening ceremony, building tours, refreshments throughout the afternoon, and a chance to see everything that has been transformed over the past few months, from the brand new kitchen to the extended storage and improved accessible facilities.

It is free, it is open to all, and everyone is welcome to bring a plus one. Just turn up!

Got memories of the hall from its days as a village school? We would love to hear your stories and see any old photographs you might have. Come along and share them with us.

RSVP to [email protected] or just come along on the day. See you there!

The kitchen has been the most talked about part of our refurbishment, and it is not hard to see why! Used by so many of our wonderful community groups and at the heart of everything from our famous Higham Scarecrow Festival to the May Fair, this kitchen works hard for Higham, helping to raise vital funds for the Village Hall and St John the Evangelist Church year after year.

So we wanted to give it the upgrade it deserves. The wall has come down, the space has been widened, and brand new units are going in. We are also investing in a new oven and dishwasher to make life easier for all the incredible volunteers who give their time so generously to make our events so special.

As you can see from these pictures, it has been quite a journey to get here! A huge thank you to KH Construction for the brilliant work, and to MKM Burnley for their help with the kitchen design and supplies.

We cannot wait to show you the finished result. Come and see it for yourself at our relaunch open afternoon on Saturday 25 April from 2pm. Everyone is welcome!

Before it gets beautiful, it has to get a bit messy!

These shots show the early stages of our extension project, with the new rear structure taking shape alongside the original stonework of our Grade II listed building. This new space will house additional storage and improved toilet facilities including a fully accessible disabled toilet, making the hall more practical and welcoming for everyone.

A special shout out to the lads at KMH Construction for that beautiful new stonework wall. It looks absolutely brilliant!
The transformation is nearly complete and we cannot wait to show you around.

Join us on Saturday 25 April from 2pm for our relaunch open afternoon. Everyone is welcome!

A first look inside the extension!

Over the past few weeks it has often been dark, wet and wintry outside, but Kev and his team from
Kevin M Hiley Construction have been working away steadily on what is becoming a real transformation at Higham Village Hall.

Now that the days are getting a little lighter and the roof is on, the village hall committee had our first chance to step inside the new extension, so we wanted to share an update.

This video shows the new storage room and the area for the upgraded loos, including the new accessible toilet. Seeing the space in person, it already feels much bigger than we expected and it is exciting to imagine how it will improve the hall for everyone who uses it.

We would like to say a huge thank you to FCC Communities Foundation for their generous grant which is making this project possible. FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that supports community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

We are also incredibly grateful to Kevin M Hiley Construction, Barrowford, for the hard work and care they have taken to keep the hall running for our regular users while construction has been underway.

Thanks as well to MKM Building Supplies, Burnley, for supplying materials.

Next we are looking forward to the internal fit-out. But first, work begins on the kitchen remodelling, another exciting step forward for the hall.

We will keep sharing updates as the project progresses.

A DATE FOR YOUR DIARIES - Tuesday, 9- DEC - 7:00PM AT THE VILLAGE HALL

The proposed Extension Grant submission is progressing well and so the Village Hall Committee is hosting a meeting to present the plans for the proposed extension. Work is planned to commence early January.

This will be an opportunity to see the plans / feedback your views or concerns re the proposed extension, and any impacts, such as access to the VH itself, VH car park and to the church yard via the VH car park.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and if you would confirm attendance and numbers (send us a quick DM or email [email protected]) it would be appreciated, so the hall can be set up to accommodate everyone - there may be mince pies too!

We can’t wait to share the plans with you! It’s exciting to be able to finally make this happen.
