I am very sad to announce the passing of our friend and musical brother Ged Hindle. Ged unfortunately passed away last week after a battle with cancer and will be very fondly remembered, yet sadly missed. On behalf of myself and everybody else from the jam session regulars, I would like to offer sincere condolences and utmost sympathies to Ged's family, friends and loved ones.

Ged was a stalwart supporter of the Jam Nite sessions that we used to run at the Man and Scythe. He brought a breath of fresh air with his modesty and eagerness to be involved playing with others and showcase his own material without so much of a gram of ego. He really was a kind and polite man with a gentle temperament, but bag of energy and enthusiasm for live music.

I'm sure many of you will also consider yourself honoured to have been able to know Ged, call him a friend and also have the chance to play music together. He was an excellent guitarist and singer, and his own compositions always went down very well, leading other members of the group to ask for the chords so that they could learn the songs themselves. Some of the crowd favourites you may remember were "Mad House", "Lifeline" and "I should have listened to my Dad".

Those who were in attendance at the legendary Gavstock music events that took place between 2013 and 2022 would remember that Ged played his own material at most if not all of the gigs, and could be found playing alongside Don Parry and other Jam Nite regulars in "The Poets". And, Ged would often be found at different open mics around the area giving a solid performance.

As sad as it is to think that Ged is no longer with us, we can be happy that he graced our lives with his beaming personality and passion for music. He really was such a nice bloke and will be remembered for all the goodness he brought to the world.

There are no funeral details available at this time but I will pass on the information as and when it is made available.

Thanks for the music and all the good times Ged!

IMPORTANT NEWS!!! The Alma Inn has got cask ale back on. Make sure all the RATS know haha.

CASK ALE BACK AT THE ALMA!!

We're very pleased to let everyone know that we are FINALLY getting cask ale back at the Alma!!

Only took 18 months of us blagging the folks in charge that we want beers on that people actually want to drink 😂

We thought we would start with a popular one so we are going to have Hobgoblin Gold back on this weekend.

We'll have limited stock to begin with and start to bring in different ales as we go along, providing it sells.

We're well aware of how many people stopped coming here because of the ales being taken off and we're really looking forward to seeing some old faces again!

Now we're finally getting it back we need your help to spread the word.

If you could share this post or let the social media adverse know of our exciting news it would be much appreciated 😁

Cheers
Sam & Emma

Matt Haigh's funeral will take place on Monday 19th August, 10:15am at Overdale East Chapel.

FUNERAL DETAILS FOR JAMES MATTHEW HAIGH.

Matt's funeral service is going to be held on Monday 19th August at 10:15, and will take place at Overdale East Chapel.

Thank you most sincerely to everybody who made a kind donation to the Gofundme page.

There has been a massive response from the community with innumerable measures of kind words, stories and fond memories of Matt shared. Matt was part of the very fabric that makes up Booth's Music and his gentle, likeable personality clearly resonated with so many people.

Following the funeral, there is to be a wake that will hopefully take place at a suitable venue in the town centre. Please stay posted for further information.

Our friend and fellow Jam Nite acquaintence Matt Haigh has sadly passed away. Many of you guys will have playedm usic with him at our sessions over the years, and also at the Dog and Partridge where he also enjoyed performing.

Any details regarding a memorial or funeral will be available as soon as we have then.

Matt was a wonderful person and such a talent, we will miss him very much.

It is with overwhelming sadness that we have to break the news of violin tutor Matt Haigh's sudden passing. Matt was a wonderful person, so kind and gentle, very patient and so enthusiastic in encouraging others to pursue their talents and aspirations.

Everything happened so quickly and all of us here at the shop, including staff, tutors and of course his dozens of students and their parents, are in shock and just at a loss with Matt's unexpected deterioration in health.

It has been decided to set up a Go Fund Me page to collect donations towards, at the very least, a memorial service for Matt and hopefully, if possible, a funeral. There will be more information about this available as soon as possible, it seemed appropriate to inform those who knew Matt.

Matt wasn't just liked, he was loved by so many here at Booth's and in the music scene. He was a very, very talented musician and made many people happy by entertaining them either busking in the town in previous years or playing at several of the local live music sessions. Matt has been teaching here at Booth's Music for close to twenty years and was absolutely adored by his colleagues and pupils. Many students have achieved monumental success in graded exams and acquiring places at prestigious schools and colleges, including a number who have gone on to study at Chetham's School of Music and one who went to Harvard in the US. This is all down to Matt's guidance and enthusiastic approach to bringing out the best in each individual. He had also been a customer here for decades and was a dear personal friend to all of us in the team.

Matt will be sorely missed by all of us here at Booth's Music and many of those who loved and respected him from the wider musical community.

We are aware that many of Matt's friends are eagerly awaiting news of a service or funeral, a further update is promised as soon as we know more.
