Yesterday our Campaigns Manager Sannah Sajid spoke to ITV News about something we care deeply about, the future of Digbeth and Birmingham’s creative scene.

With the new railway plans threatening venues like The Night Owl, we have to ask: what does “progress” actually look like?

We talk constantly about investing in Birmingham’s creative infrastructure, but how can we build a creative city while shutting down the very spaces where creativity happens?

Digbeth is what it is because of its artists, venues, promoters and communities. Development is important, but not at the expense of culture.

If we want Birmingham to be a creative city, we have to protect the spaces that make it one.

We’ve already seen so much growth from this group, but their Community Routes journey is only getting started.

Shambala Festival x Community Routes 2026 ⚡️

This year’s Community Routes cohort ended the Residency by performing & working at the UK’s biggest independent festival, Shambala Festival, with over 15,000 attendees across the site!

We couldn’t be prouder of the creativity, confidence and energy they brought with them. A huge thank you to the Shambala team, our mentors & facilitators and most importantly, every member of this year’s Community Routes cohort.
