There’s a brewery coming to Cambridge this month that was already 21 years old when the Battle of Waterloo was fought.
Elgood’s was founded in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in 1795. They’ve brewed through two world wars, the rise and fall of the tied house system, the keg revolution that nearly killed cask ale, and the craft beer boom that brought it back. They’re still in Wisbech. Still making cask beer. Still making a dark mild.
That mild is called Double Dog. 6.5%. Same recipe as Black Dog but with considerably more oomph. If you think mild is quiet and unassuming, Double Dog has something to say about that.
Both on the bar at Cambridge Beer Festival from 18 May 🍺
What’s the oldest brewery you’ve ever had a pint from? Or have you drank from an older brewery?
