ValeFest

ValeFest ValeFest is a student society which works with the Guild of Students to organise a music festival held every June for the past 20 years!

We aim to support local artists and charities, while creating a community with a shared love of music. Valefest is a music festival held on the Vale every June after exams, run in collaboration with the Guild of Students. Our aim is to entertain whilst raising awareness and money for our incredible, annually chosen charities. Previous headliners have included Overpass, Biig Piig and The Hunna, wit

h musicians such as General Levy, Disrupta, Swim School and many local Birmingham bands such as Eighty Eight Miles also playing. We support local charities, businesses and musicians while providing live music and entertainment in and around the UoB area! We also go on socials to local gigs so if you're interested in live music and just want some friends to go with, Valefest is the place for you! If you would like to join our committee and gain experience in the music and event industry whilst learning news skills in all aspects, from marketing, to business, booking artists, then this is the society for you. We’d love to have you join! If you have any questions contact us by

An update on Valefest 2023

Easy read version:
We’re so sorry that you have not heard much from the ValeFest committee over the last few days. We are devastated to announce that ValeFest 2023 has had to be cancelled. Our committee has worked tirelessly to organise an incredible event that supports local charities, local businesses, and UoB student groups, all whilst creating the highlight event of the academic year. One which has been running for nearly 20 years.

The Guild has refused to authorise the only ValeFest model that we would wish to deliver: an event that provides a value for money experience for students and achieves the committee’s aims of supporting a variety of local and student talent. We want to thank all of our acts, sponsors, stalls and caterers for their patience over the last few weeks, whilst we have been negotiating with The Guild. All of us at ValeFest were overwhelmed with the support we managed to obtain from sponsors and stall holders this year, with 2023 set to be a record breaking year.

For those of you who have supported us and bought tickets, we are beyond grateful and so sorry that you have been let down in this way. Unfortunately, we were advised at extremely late notice that 80% of tickets needed to have been sold a month prior to the event in order for ValeFest 2023 to sign contracts with the acts due to perform. This prevented us from releasing the lineup, which we know would have encouraged further ticket sales, and put significant pressure on the committee to promote the event as much as possible during the busiest time of the academic year.

We’re not sure what this means for future editions of ValeFest, but on behalf of the 2023 committee we want to thank you all again for your support. We would like to apologise that we couldn’t make this year’s event happen for you, despite the committee having done everything they could. All tickets and t-shirts will be refunded in full as soon as possible, and if you have previously won a free ticket to ValeFest we will be in contact as soon as we can to arrange an alternative prize.

Our Story

VALEFEST IS COMING to kickstart your summer and help you celebrate the end of term in style. Vale Festival is charitable, ethical, and eco-friendly. For the last 15 years it has been hosted and organised by students at the University of Birmingham. With majority of proceeds going directly to charity. Literally the day after exams finish, we are taking over the Vale Village and commandeering the lake to put on an amazing festival right in the University’s back yard. This year it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before! After consulting the oracle, we were advised this year to stack out our Dance Tent with brand new speakers to give you wall to wall bass for a good bit of hilltop raving. However, if you’re not a bass ju**ie, then you will still be more than spoilt for choice! You will be treated to sweet melodies and gentle acoustics from a range of acts in our homely Acoustic Stage tucked away by woods. Then, when you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you can wander over to the Lakeside Stage showcasing some truly awesome rock, alternative, and indie bands that you'll be glad to discover. And we nearly forget to mention the Main Stage. It will be hosting a wicked range of bands and acts to keep you singing all day. We love the look of our lineup already and we can't wait to share it with you! Now, The Vale Festival committee will not be satisfied until we have totally entertained you for every minute of our 14-hour festival extravaganza! As well as the music there will also be a plethora of fun stuff to do. Dotted around the site are places to sample amazing food and drink, laugh at some comedy, make your own master piece, listen to an intriguing talk, check out the University's societies, fight as a sumo, watch a battle re-enactment, and simply relax in the stunning landscape of the Vale. Not only do you get 10 and a half hours of fun, frills and frolicking in the sun to the best of the Midlands’ talent; we will be hosting our epic after-party for those who want to keep dancing into the night. We can't wait!
