📣 Berwick Barracks Artist Studio Bursaries now open to artists in North Northumberland & the Scottish Borders
The Living Barracks is an ambitious multi-partner project creating a thriving cultural hub and visitor destination at Berwick Barracks in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The site is already home to five artists based in studios managed by the Maltings (Berwick) Trust. As part of the studio development, we are offering three one-month bursaries for artists based in North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders, providing dedicated space to support their creative practice.
In partnership with Berwick Open Studios, we are also offering a bursary for an artist who may not otherwise be able to participate due to a lack of studio or exhibition space.
Applications close: Sunday 28 June, midnight.

The Living Barracks Project aims to restore and renew the historic Berwick Barracks site’s pivotal role as a central part of the town’s social and cultural life.
During the renovation, an art-led public engagement programme named Berwick Shines, led by the Maltings (Berwick) Trust, invites artists to explore and respond to the extensive heritage collections of the Barracks, the town, and what Berwick and its barracks has been, will be and could become, in partnership with the people of Berwick.
The Living Barracks Project is an exciting collaboration between Berwick Barracks Heritage Trust (BBHT), English Heritage, The King's Own Scottish Borderers Museum, Maltings (Berwick) Trust and Northumberland County Council and proudly supported by Arts Council England’s Cultural Development Fund (CDF), The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Northumberland County Council and other generous supporters.
