👩🏼‍🎓 Her Voice, Her Heritage, Her Leadership: Empowering Women Through Leadership and Peacebuilding 👩🏼‍🎓

Yesterday, MSCNI was delighted to attend an inspiring women’s leadership workshop at NICVA as part of our Her Voice, Her Heritage, Her Leadership programme, celebrating Black History Month.

👏🏽 We extend our sincere thanks to Celine McStravick, CEO of NICVA, for sharing her leadership journey and reminding us that true leadership requires humility, courage, accountability and the willingness to say, “I’m sorry.”

💜 Our discussions highlighted the importance of recognising the skills and contributions of migrant and Black women, valuing volunteers, building trust and creating opportunities for women to lead and inspire change.

🕊️ Thank you to Julia Fitzpatrick of Migrants Centre NI for delivering an engaging workshop on peacebuilding, race relations, good relations and conflict resolution.

🙏🏽 We are grateful to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, through its Community Cohesion Fund – Race Relations, for funding this programme. 🎃🖤 Celebrating Creativity, Culture & Black History! 🖤🎃

Our children at the Homework Club and Transfer Test Club had a fantastic time designing and decorating their very own pumpkins for Halloween, adding a special creative touch to our celebration of Black History Month! ✨🎨

From colourful creations to imaginative designs, each pumpkin reflected the children’s creativity, individuality and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see them expressing themselves, sharing ideas, learning together and, most importantly, having lots of fun! 🧡

Celebrating Black History Month is about more than looking back at history; it is also about creating spaces where our children feel seen, valued, inspired and proud of the richness and diversity of their identities and heritage. Through activities like this, we bring learning to life, nurture confidence and encourage our children to appreciate the beauty of different cultures and traditions.

We are so proud of our young creatives and grateful for the opportunity to make learning joyful, meaningful and memorable. Every little pumpkin tells a story, and every child has a light worth celebrating! 🌍🧡

📢 MSCNI Welcomes the Launch of NICVA’s New Strategy – Unlocking Potential: Towards 2030
MSCNI was delighted to be represented at the launch of NICVA’s Four-Year Strategic Plan, Unlocking Potential – Towards 2030, an important milestone for Northern Ireland’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

The event brought together representatives from across the sector and government to discuss the future of our communities, the challenges facing local organisations, and the opportunities to work together to deliver meaningful and lasting change.

It was valuable to hear from Minister Gordon Lyons and Permanent Secretary Grainia Long during the discussion, highlighting the importance of partnership between government and the voluntary and community sector.
We also extend our sincere thanks to NICVA Chief Executive Celine McStravick for hosting and facilitating such a well-organised and engaging event.

At MSCNI, we recognise the vital contribution of community and voluntary organisations in tackling inequality, supporting vulnerable people, empowering individuals and strengthening communities across Northern Ireland.

As NICVA looks towards 2030, we hope this strategy will help create stronger partnerships, meaningful engagement, sustainable support for the sector and greater recognition of the voices of the communities we serve.

MSCNI Board attends the Creating Connected Communities Conference 2026

Today, members of the MSCNI Board attended the Creating Connected Communities – A Place We Call Home Community Conference 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Belfast.

The conference brought together key stakeholders, community organisations and leaders to explore how we can build stronger, more inclusive and connected communities across Northern Ireland.

It was great to hear from Catherine McFarland, Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE), about the fantastic work NIHE is doing to support communities, invest in social enterprises and help create positive, lasting change across Northern Ireland.
We were also pleased to hear from Kate Clifford as a key speaker, contributing to the important conversations around community development, recovery and the role of partnership in creating lasting positive change.

The presentations highlighted the vital contribution of social enterprises to local communities through job creation, skills development, volunteering opportunities and social value. Discussions also explored the challenges facing communities and the importance of listening to local voices, investing in local solutions and strengthening collaboration.

The event reinforced the importance of partnership working across sectors to tackle inequality, respond to local needs and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to feel supported, included and connected.

MSCNI is proud to support initiatives that champion community empowerment, collaboration and better outcomes for people and communities throughout Northern Ireland.

Today, Sunday 18th October, Coláiste Feirste played host to a fantastic day of football, friendship and togetherness as players from multiple nationalities came together for our Good Relations Week Inclusion Football Matches. 🤝❤️

The event was about much more than what happened on the pitch. It was about bringing people from different backgrounds together, building positive relationships, celebrating diversity and showing how sport can unite communities.

Football provided a shared space where people could connect, build friendships and enjoy the spirit of friendly competition, united by one common passion — football! ⚽🌍

🏆 Congratulations to BIC NI on being crowned the overall winners! 👏⚽ A fantastic achievement, and well done to all the teams and players who took part and contributed to such a positive day of sport and community spirit.

✨ Celebrating Black History Month Through Creativity, Heritage and Youth Voices! ✨

In celebration of Black History Month, some of our MSCNI youth club young people had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Creative Heritage Workshop with Valda Jackson MBE — renowned artist, educator and cultural practitioner, and designer of the Windrush 50p commemorative coin.

Delivered in collaboration with Multi-Ethnic Sports & Cultures Northern Ireland (MSCNI), JoinHer Network, ACSONI and National Museums NI, the workshop provided a meaningful space for young people to explore creativity, heritage, identity and belonging.

The session also highlighted the experiences of the Windrush generation and the importance of raising awareness of the Windrush Compensation Scheme, while creating opportunities for young people to share their perspectives on belonging and inclusion in today’s society.

Black History Month is an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate Black history, culture, achievements and contributions, while encouraging learning, reflection and meaningful conversations across our communities.

We are proud of our young people for getting involved, expressing themselves creatively and contributing their voices to these important discussions. ❤️
