Bedford Film Festival was set up to help people in the town have access to films they might not have a chance to see elsewhere. The ethos behind the festival is 'support variety' and so the films being shown during the festival, at venues across Bedford, will all be very different from each other. This will allow audiences to see wide ranging genres and styles not available in mainstream cinema. S

ome of the films chosen will be well known, others may be from fledgling film makers. We are sure that whatever the popularity or style, you will enjoy them all. We will also be working with already established community groups and festivals to promote and support their film related activities too. The first official film screened by Bedford Film Festival was Searching for Sugar Man, it sold out. A few years later we screened it again and that also sold out.

Everyone at Bedford Film Festival offers their sincere condolences to Laura and Sarah’s loved ones at this difficult time.

Laura, in particular, was incredibly supportive of Bedford Film Festival in our early days and throughout, always there to lend an ear and help us overcome red tape and reach as many people as possible. She was an asset to cultural communities across Bedford and beyond and we are proud to have called her our friend. We will miss her greatly.

Our thoughts remain with her and Sarah’s families and all who knew them. 😔

This couldn’t be more deserved. James has been the driving force behind Bedfringe from day one, growing it to become the fourth largest fringe festival in the UK. He’s also been incredibly supportive of Bedford Film Festival and we couldn’t have done half the things we wanted to without his patience, generosity and expertise.

Supporting film variety...

Bedford Film Festival was set up to help people in the town have access to films they might not have a chance to see elsewhere. Some of the films we screen will be well known others may be from overseas, some may be from fledgling film makers and some may be from homegrown talent. Whatever the popularity or style of the films we screen, we are sure that you will enjoy them all. The ethos behind the festival is 'support variety'. Unlike many film festivals we don’t have a theme, so the films we screen at venues across Bedford will all be very different from each other. This allows audiences to see wide ranging genres and styles not available in mainstream cinema. As well as our audience, we're supported by BAFTA and the BFI and the many private sponsors who have all given their time and or financial support in helping us to grow. We pay forward this support by working with already established community groups and other festivals to promote and support their film related activities too. We also help fledgling film makers by giving them a platform to show their work and also help them financially where possible.
