Vintage has been a part of my household and I’ve slowly been drawn into it, starting with 1940’s suits and I’ve recently found my love for 50’s through events.

I also have a passion for World War 2 Warbirds with a hobby of flying RC aircraft. I have airplanes ranging from the Spitfire, Lancaster and upto the B-17 which is the biggest aircraft I have.

The reason i like vintage is that everything i am wearing belonged to my dad or my grandfather , so i like that feeling of continuity and family.

Whilst i could tell you why i have a passion for vintage ( distinctive, individual, nostalgia - what stories they could tell, sustainable, the thrill of the hunt for something specific, the craftmanship) , i would like instead to tell you why i specifically like 50s vintage.

The 50s is known for the fashion being at its most glamourous and Couture's Golden Age. It was in direct contrast to war time austerity, masculine dowdy dressing and rationing - everyone was desperate for beauty, lusury fabrics and femininity. This is best represented by Christian Dior's hourglass, dressy New Look with a nipped in waist, rounded shoulders and full skirts, all emphasising a clear gender divide and the female form. Women wanted to look dressy, put together with impeccable hair, pearls, red lipstick, gloves, structured handbags, stilettos and furs. They wanted to look like their new screen idols of Marilyn, Grace, Audrey , now seen in colour for the very first time.

I wore for my 21st birthday party in 1967! I plan to wear it this year for my 80th. It was the psychedylic year of the 60s and I worked in Carnaby Street!

2026 Dance Lessons....

Twinwood offers a wide range of FREE dance lessons during the festival to get you up and on those dance floors! With classes for complete beginners as well as more experienced dancers, there is something for everyone. There’s no need to sign up - you can just turn up and have fun!

We host a dazzling and comprehensive array of dance lessons on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, where you can learn the Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston and many more Swing dance styles. We also teach a mix of social ballroom lessons and novelty dances, as well as beginner Jive classes for those looking for some great Rock ‘n’ Roll moves!

There’s so much to choose from, and daily lessons are held across four different large indoor venues at the festival. You'll also find the full dance workshop timetable detailed in the day planner that is given to all festival arrivals at the reception tent.
